Hi there,

About 10 months ago, I was talking to a friend about starting an e-commerce store, and the possibilites of what we could sell. We wanted something that was small, light, and profitable. So we dove right in the deep end.

We found a niche, did some research, found our product from alibaba, com (ordered 100 widgets), and then set up a professional looking website (eg bluewidgetstore.com).

Since we started, I've been ranking nowhere in the search engines..and so far we've sold around 20 widgets. (We make around $30 per sale).

It proves to me the system works, the site converts, although we've had really really low traffic.

What can help my e-commerce store get more traffic? I've got a blog, also youtube videos and on-page SEO. I've ranked sites before, pretty easily using these techniques, but for some reason this site is slow to respond.

Thanks guys

PPC + banner ads traffic all the way. If you want to do it successfully, you can't just focus on SEO only.

Don't forget to email special offers to your current customers to reattain your old customers.

Start promoting your site online - participate in niche communities, send out press releases nationally, do guest posts, build backlinks. That plus everything the above 2 people mentioned.

      Hi sheffernan,

When you build a website that sells products that are in high demand, you are going to have a lot of competition. So ranking in search engines, for those keywords with search volume and commercial intent, is going to take a significant effort, and perhaps a fair amount of time to earn your way to the top.

In eCommerce you are more likely to have quick success if you advertise. That will get you to the top of search results the same day you launch the campaign. Use the profits from your advertising campaigns to fund an aggressive social media marketing campaign. Your paid ads and social media marketing is all you need to drive significant traffic to your website. There are so many channels available in both of those segments that you will be very busy for a number of years to fully exploit.

Gotta start pushing that paid traffic also. PPV and PPC search engines. such as Google's Adwords, BING, Yahoo! I'd also agree about the articles and press releases too. Its always great to find a low competition niche that IS in High demand.

I agree. While you have onsite SEO- and that is super great, SEO isn't really the only option ( and the last in my field of battle) for getting my website in front of people. In other words, SEO can be slow to product. You have to get known, get your website out there. Push SEO to the back for a minute and focus more on just getting your site in front of people. They cant show up if they dont know your site exists, AND if they type in keywords that you site contains, there is no guarantee that you are going to show up on the first page of google. Do PPC, PPV, do google adwords, studads.com, craigslist, *shopping engine comparison sites*. Submit to blog feeds, stumble upon, etc. (if you have a blog, I think you said you did). LINK YOUR SHOP PAGES IN YOUR BLOG! That is so important. I had so many people flying out on my blog and couldnt figure out why. Because I didnt make it apparent with a widget on the sidebar that I also had a shop.
      Good luck to you.
