What is the easiest and cheapest way to add a Affiliate program to a website for physical products

Hi,

I'm currently dealing with a US based company that sells physical products in a health related field. They currently have have a wholesale program, but no Affiliate program, which I'm trying to convince them to implement as I want to feature a couple of their products in separate chapters of an ebook I'm currently writing.

I'm dealing with the CEO of the company and he just wants to join his wholesale program which won't work for my purposes.

Is there a SIMPLE way to just create a separate webpage such as www.xxxxx.com/mycompany which would let them know that any sales came through the ebook?

I'm looking for something that is:

1. Free or cheap
2. Simple to set up

as I'm dealing with a relatively small company.

Although this relates to just one company, I anticipate this will also come up again as in some cases I'm dealing with small operators.

Any assistance, however small, would be GREATLY appreciated.

Warm regards,

Grant

Well generally you will make less as an affiliate than as a normal reseller. Why not simply create a site of your own to sell these products? You get the full wholesale to retail markup, you can easily add other vendors and if you do things right you may capture business other than business outside of your ebook referral.

Based on your comments I would bet the companies web site is not great for generating business. Do a better job than they do, make the max profit you can, avoid having to convince a company to do something they don't understand. Heck, get then to refer people to you who want an affiliate program and YOU manage it!

      Hi redlegrich,

      Thank you for your post.

I'm trying to avoid having to set up a website of my own, as I don't have the time, skill or resources to do so. Even though they are a fairly small operator, they have a pretty nice website, thus beating it would be beyond my financial resources at this stage.

      Thanks for your input.

      Warm regards,

      Grant

In that case, see if there is an add on capability (or already exists) for the shopping cart they use. The chances are likely good.

The building your own site idea is probably easier than having to basically revamp their system. Not all systems are compatible with affiliate systems (at least out of the box) and even if it is are you sure they are going to want to spend money on getting one implemented?

If they only carry a few products than it's not that hard to setup a basic site.

Was pretty easy to integrate JEM JROX with Magento. Really worth the money. I have set it up through a clothing distributor so that I could promote their items and make sales through my own affiliate link.

Really? He said he didnt have the time to set up and administer a site and your answer is Magento? One of the more complicated shopping cart systems available? One that requires heavy duty servers and pretty good coding knowledge? One that will require his supplier to go spend how many dollars to implement on their side?

Empoweryourhealth: How many products are you looking to sell? You said its through an ebook you are creating? Give me more information and maybe I have a solution that will be easy yet work well for you.

I didn't say to use Magento. I was stating which affiliate system I have experience with.

        Hi OnlineStoreHelp,

Thanks for your interest. At this stage the book looks like it will have around 30 chapters, although it is growing all the time. Each chapter will be devoted to a particular subject such as 'super foods' etc. and most chapters will have links to 1-3 products.

My potential affiliate company has opted to go for a coupon code arrangement that is ALREADY operating rather than setting up a affiliate program - it still works out well for me and my customers get a discount to boot. WIN-WIN.

        Warm regards,

        Grant

    Hi empoweryourhealth,

The answer you're looking for is AffiliateShop. I had to set up an affiliate program for a client on Magento Go a few months ago, so I did a bunch of research into affiliate programs and costs, etc.

Affiliate Shop is extremely cheap- their setup fee is only like $25 (vs $500+ for the other affiliate networks I looked at), PLUS, they take NO percentages from your sales. All of the other ones did demand a percentage of sales. The monthly is a very, very, modest $45. You can call support and talk to a real American. Yeah, I've had to do that a few times to get my integration questions answered.
This all adds up to an extremely attractive product for business managers reticent to shell out bucks for "another internet project"; there's low cost, no double dipping, and surely the sales from a few affiliate can cover the cost of the low $45 monthly fee.

    Good luck OP.

I am curious if you had looked at zferral. There is not maintenance, they just instead take a percentage of sales.
