Skype or Google Voice for small biz?

Google Voice is free. I have it forward to my cell phone and I have it setup where if it's from my Google Voice number my cell phone basically tells me with the caller ID. Then to make outgoing calls I can use either my cell phone number or my Google Voice number, it's an option. I prefer the cell because I'm not always in front of the same computer and really have never received a GV call on my computer.

Skype you have to pay a monthly fee and I believe it would have pretty much the same functionality as GV. The difference is Skype has a very good computer application to receive and make calls.

You can have one number for as many businesses as you want. You can just answer the call in a generic way ex. "Hello, this is Ray. How may I help you?" You might get confused about which business it's for, but I'm sure the caller will tell you what they're calling about and then you can figure it out.

GV has worked perfectly for me and it's free.

If you want to get more complex and have a whole bunch of phone numbers, phone menus and things like that you can use Twilio with OpenVBX to make and receive calls.

I haven't used Google Voice but I have been meaning to. I have used Skype in the past and still do just they do not provide any Hawaii extensions so I had to go with Ring Central. Nice thing about Ring Central over the others is the ability to send and receive efaxes. So I can send a file as a fax through Ring Central and if a fax gets sent to my ring central number it saves as a pdf. I can also look like a bigger company by creating extensions and forward it to any cell. That being said, I still use Skype for video conferences and it works great. Their iphone app works better than ring central too.

after skype was bought out my microsoft, it has gone downhill. you can't even share your screen anymore. my suggestion is to find other alternatives than be in the back pocket of microsoft or you're just going to be limiting yourself.

Well, I think I'm going with both. I have Google apps for Business, so it's a quick set-up for GV. This I will use on the road, traveling. And it's free! Skype for working at my desk, which is, most of the time. I haven't figured out how Skype mobile works, tried to use it this morning while out of town, and couldn't get it to work in the few free minutes I had. I'll have to work with it a bit. I know I can have video conferencing on Skype, but how many outside of the other 4 members in Google apps I don't. :confused:

I also use both...but in my experience voice calls on GV are always crystal clear while Skype calls are full of echo's and voice delays.
