Hi Warriors.. I'm at the point of my website where I'm e-mailing dropshippers hoping they accept me, however I've been contacted back and asked for a business license or a resale certificate and I don't think I have one? Any advice for me guys? I'm from the UK

I'm also in the same position. I've been reading the past few weeks and I can't figure out how I can write a detailed or accurate business plan to get an idea of profitability without getting COGS #s from suppliers. They need an ID or a website to know I'm for real but if I had a website, I've already put the horse before the cart.

They do their research, too. I had to have a state seller's permit, EID, business license, etc., before wholesalers would even talk to me. I thought, too, that some things didn't make sense. For example, some wholesalers want a certificate of state sellers permit, but in order to get a permit (and certificate), in the first place, you need to have wholesalers lined up on your application. Chicken or egg first???

Check your state's website for Sales Tax and Use....there you can get a sales tax certificate which often equates to a "resell" certificate. Business licenses are for storefronts. If you do a search for EIN or Employer Identification Number, you will get it on the federal level. These tow numbers/certificates are always needed for commercial wholesale acct.s

In the state of Washingto for $20 I can get a sole proprietors business license. That with my SSN is enough to get an account with any wholesaler. Now having a federal level EIN is better (in my opinion) you can still operate with the previous items with businesses.

That's the cheap and easy way. If you are serious go for an LLC or Corp (consult an attorney) and then your personal assets are protected and you can play LOTS of tax games that are beneficial to you and your pocket book!

For california under their website it says that you need the following:

      Names and addresses of suppliers
Name and address of bookkeeper or accountant
Name and address of personal references
Expected average monthly sales and the amount of those sales which are taxable

So.. if suppliers wont look at me without this permit, how do I get suppliers? lol
and bookkeeper or accountant? Really? Personal references? Like who my friends?
How do you average monthly sales without knowing Cost of goods sold and shipping which you don't get without the supplier information, which you don't get without permits?? Stupid system.

Hmm interesting. It doesnt say optional. Can I just leave them blank? If so are my chances of getting approved going to be very slim?
