Who is your Merchant Account?

I have two problems: One out of three of my stores is considered high risk ( adult sales- you can guess what there). So alot of merchants will not take me.

The other is my credit is trashed all to heck and back. My husbands however is in the 700's so I would have a cosigner if I need one. Mine is actually on the mend BACK from my having surgery and not being able to keep up with medical costs and my bills before I met my husband. I keep a folder of debt and have been paying it off religiously. I am only about 2 grand away from being completely debt free and I watch equifax and all that religiously, but still yet my credit went from being pretty pristine to totally bad.

Any merchants who dont check your credit or take on adult sales.... I know some here do that. Can you tell me who your merchant is?

Thanks!

Give Nathan Conley at Durango Merchant Services a call. They specialize in high risk accounts and have pretty reasonable rates. They also have the best customer service I have ever experienced from an online processing company.

Tell him Dave from Store Coach says "hi." I haven't talked with him in awhile, things have been running so smoothly. Great guy!

  • I have a credit score of ZERO.

Why? Because I have no debt. A credit score is a measure of debt - and how well you pay it off - and I just don't have any. Nor will I ever (again).

Nor has my business ever been in debt, and it also has a credit score of zero.

Everything I purchase is in full, with cash.

I use Intuit - no problems there - and they also take high-risk accounts.

Chase Paymentech, but before that, Elavon through the Costco Credit Card Processing program.

However, there are companies that specialize in credit card processing for high risk industries (adult, diet products, etc). One of the ways you can secure the account is with a rolling reserve to offset the risk.

I dont want to use paypal or paypal pro as someone has mentioned because of the rolling reserve and sometimes locking people out of getting their money for 30,60 even 90 days. I'm not starting up with a wealth of upfront cash, so I don't have time for that and it will hurt my business if I cannot access my money.

I am still looking and I see you all have given me some options. I have alot going on today but I WILL be contacting Getexperienced, etc. tomorrow. Thanks again guys

After 2 years 3 months of research... I found alternative's for essential tools (like gotowebinar, camtasia, survey monkey and many more) that are just as good as the ones you've heard about, but cost a ton less! So good even Guru's like Mike Filsaime have used and recommended them. Click here to find out what most insiders know but don't tell...

Authorize.net is by far the most trusted in my opinion... If you are having a problem with your credit score, start an LLC. You will likely need to have a business identity if you will be reselling products anyways. Most of the big banks will not work with adult products at all. If you cannot get to authorize.net, try a reseller, as they may be able to get you in.

At this point, I am STILL having problems getting a merchant. Since my store is up and running, for now, I am going to just get Pay Pal Pro and do applications in the meantime so your replies are still valuable. When I say I am still having problems, I don't mean with obtaining a merchant account for my adult store, I mean for ANY store- havent even tried the adult store yet. CDGCommerce hung me up for a friggen month, and even ordered an on site inspection, I bought the plugin just to hook them up to my account and had the inspection. Really? An inspection? I dont keep stock! Anyways, after a month- they denied me saying they didnt want to take the risk. WHAT RISK? It wasn't the adult store, keep that in mind- it was one of my other niches that is comparable to say selling shoes. Ridiculous. Just ridiculous. I am more than infuriated.

I don't think you should have as much problem as the online version of your adult store. ALWAYS swipe. Train your people to be diligent against CC fraud...BIG sales. ASK your new merchant provider what they want to approve and give you a good rate. When you fill out the paperwork, be honest with your volume and average ticket...CALL them when you see business increasing.
THEY are not as much concerned about YOUR customer, as they with YOU. The biggest fraud comes from the MERCHANT!

serryjw, I am sorry but I didn't understand your reply to me.
@ the others- this is what happened and believe me it is SO infuriating. I went originally with one merchant. Their only verification process was that I answered the phone whenever they called and said my company name- not just picked it up and said "yo" or something like that. They needed me to sound professional. I mean of course I had to send them my sales exemption number and application and all of that. Well, they kept calling me AFTER store hours. As most of us, I use a toll free number that rings the cell phone. I would call them back and leave voice mails, even emails and also contact the sales rep to STOP calling after store hours OR just call straight through to my phone. Neither was done. I took the hours OFF of my toll free service so that it would ring my cell 24/7 a day and STILL had issues with them such as letting it ring once, or transferring me after I answered the phone and the secretary hanging UP on me during the process. I would call straight back and get her voice mail This went on for three weeks. I applied for a different merchant.
Merchant #1 calls me up a week later (the sales rep) and asks me if I have applied for any other merchants because it raised a red flag for the bank and he told me not to do that. I don't know if he was lying to me or not, because the process there had gone on for three weeks- so why would the bank just THEN find out I was applying to another merchant? Anyone of you guys here know that?

But, I had already APPLIED. Not only that, but I was approved in two days and on the third day, I was issued my account, integrated it with my shopping cart, bought the plugin to do that etc. A day after that, they email me and tell me that a site inspection has been ordered on my account. I thought they meant WEBSITE inspection. Get it? Anyways, I asked them what that meant, etc and never received an email back. They told me any funds that came into my account would be "held" until the inspection was over. The next day, a weird guy calls me and tells me he wants directions to my house so that he can come take pictures of my credit card machine.

Huh? I don't HAVE a credit card machine! I asked him where he was calling from twice, and I even said the name of my merchant bank and he said no and kept rattling off nothing that made sense to me. I said I am an online ecommerce store, and I don't HAVE a credit card machine, I don't have a brick and mortar store so why would I need one? He said ok thanks and hung up on me.

I contacted my merchant people, asked them if they had anything to do with this. They didnt get back to me. A day later, they email me and ask if a guy had gotten ahold of me about coming to do a site inspection. I called them at this point, and called my original sales rep and told him the guy called and said the bank called him and told him to take pictures of my credit card machine. He said what? You arent brick and mortar, something was done wrong. That was his exact words. I was given to the underwriting department and explained all this to them and they said it doesn't matter, they still need to do a site inspection. Ooooookay.
So the guy comes. Inspection done. Two days later I get an email from CDG. We are sorry, but the bank will not take the risk of this so they have closed your account. Just like that. Just wham- done. Keep in mind, this was AFTER I was approved, integrated it and everything and WAS approved for three weeks before this happened!

So anyways, contacted the owner of CDG. he is trying to help me out with this. By trying to help me out, I had to send him pictures of the limited stock in the house I do have and also send him info on my suppliers. I did that part already as I got an email weeks ago asking me to list a supplier because the bank required it and I got the approval after that. So I send him this information.

He did take the time to send me back a really long email on how the banks are cracking down on fraud and that was all good and dandy, but now he says he needs bank statements to show to the bank as well. WHAT IS GOING ON?

I have NOT gotten a clear word from them yet on WHY this happened!

I had talked to another guy at a different merchant ( didnt apply) , just yesterday., He said it sounds like they underwrote my account improperly, but since I ended up with a closed merchant bank account, it could seriously seriously hurt me and that just to apply with them or anyone, I might have to prove thousands in my bank account. I dont HAVE thousands in my bank account.

I am NOT an any TMF list and I didnt get DENIED by neither merchant. I was actually approved by each. The guy that was taking too long in the beginning ( first merchant number one) like practically begged me to not go to another merchant telling "you're approved, you're approved, we just need to get this verification done!". Now I'm wondering if since I dropped him to go to CDG if it the first merchant ended up denying me as I ended up telling him even if I am approved, just halt the process right now as I am NOT happy with how long this has been taking.

If any of you guys actually OWN or work for any of these places you have recommended then let me know or PM me privately. Is applying to another merchant just going to hurt me even more? What is going on do you guys think Account was underwritten improperly? An onsite inspection should have never been ordered anyway? And do you know any merchant accounts that do not work with banks that pull all this crap?

      let me know.

  • You can apply to as many merchant accounts as you like. Whenever you do so, it will show up on a report as an inquiry (no big deal). If you already have a merchant file currently being underwritten it's not necessarily so much a 'red flag' per say, but many Merchant Processor salesmen will try to use this as leverage to dissuade you from applying elsewhere.

As far as being underwritten improperly, it sounds like the sales agent didn't take enough time to ask you the right questions on the merchant application. On any app there are sections that specifically ask about the business office, type, product, etc. So if he checked off 'Commercial Office' instead of 'Owner Residence' on the application, then yes of course they may ask for a site inspection - which doesn't exist in your case and cause mass confusion and potentially a red flag on both ends.

A closed account is not necessarily a TMF, especially if you say it wasn't open in the first place. They may have just closed your application. I would recommend applying again, just be honest with the sales rep you speak with and tell them everything that happened up front. There are plenty of legit businesses who would love to be your processor as long as you're honest and not try to materially hide anything.

You may want to try these - Merchant Warehouse, FirstData, and Eprocessing Network. You will have to go through an approval process with these.
