Pre-orders for drop-shipping?

I've been building a checkout service that helps sellers accept pre-orders (i.e., being able to accept payment information upfront, but not charging until you ship).

The biggest benefit is that it allows you test demand before buying any raw inventory/supplies. So far, it's worked well for Kickstarter grads like Bohemian Guitars and Boosted Boards who won't be able to ship their products until Fall 2013, but want to be able to make sales now. I've also been playing around with the idea of building a "progress bar" a la Groupon/Kickstarter, so your product can be socially validated.

Do you think any of these tools might helpful for the wholesale/drop-shipping community? Would love some honest feedback!

Thanks,
Brian
