Shopping Search Engines

A few months ago I was told on here that getting my site onto the shopping search comparison sites is one of the first things I need to do. I finally have someone helping me with this set up. We decided to go with become.com this week---and will add a few more to the mix. I had to fund my account wiht $100 minimim to start. Now---for each click, this is costing me abotu $.30---seems a bit high, and this is for the minimum's in my category. I blew through $20 on my first day, and no sales.

Couple of questions....I am assuming I need to fix my product pages to increase conversions? Any other tips etc for these sites? About 25% of my site has original descriptions etc, buts some are still generic as I am a bit slow on this end.

How many of your sales are coming from shopping comparison sites? My niche is competitive but I think I outshine my competition with the personality of my site and through social media---but I realize on these sites, price is an influencer--I am not the least expensive and don't plan to be.

With that said...at $20 a day and no sales--that isn't going to work. Help!

    Hi Julie,

    Hope all is well!

.30 cents is relatively high - especially if you're not selling expensive expensive items with a good profit margin. Based on a lot of studies, the average eCommerce store converts at 2 - 3%

With a 2% conversion rate you're looking at $15 in ad spending per sale and with a 3% conversion rate you would be looking at spending $10 for each sale.

If you're selling expensive items then this is a small cost to acquire a customer, but if you're items are not that expensive it may not be worth it to work with shopping engines that have CPCs as high are you are experiencing with become.com.

    Hope that helps,
    Anton

I tried posting on Search Engine shopping and frankly I had no success. I paid someone to create a data feed and posted on Find.com, Bing.com Shopzilla, and Google. Like you I funded them with $100 each and I had no sales from it.

What I realized is that they are like google ads and you really have to focus on it and try new things, different combinations to see what works because you can easily loose your money. I have not heard of become.com, try google shopping, from everything I am reading, this is the time to get into google shopping because people are still trying to figure out the changes since it went from free to paid.

    ahhhhh I see. Makes sense.

Okay---I need to look at all the CPC then before I move forward with adding more shopping comparison sites into the mix. Yes--this helps a great deal---good info to know that I wasn't aware of. My conversion rate is lower than the average at .5%---most likely because my site is still being worked on and its just not up to standard yet in alot of areas. If I can get it to 2-3%---I would actually meet my ideal goal for the next 6 months.

    Thanks as usual Anton!
