Ecommerce seo tip anyone?

by bizousoft 10 replies
Would like to pick the collective's minds brain. I am looking for some general SEO tips related to Ecommerce. Problem is that I'm so new that I'm not sure where to begin. What would you recommend to a complete newbie?

May be share your favorite resource? I've attached a video which I found pretty useful below:

Ecommerce Seo Tips - YouTube

It talks about things like canonical urls etc., but I feel like there's gotta be more useful information out there.

    Relevance, relevance, relevance.

Start with keyword research to pick your niche... Then, zero in on the products your target market are searching for.

Then add products with relevant keywords in the url, title, description, body copy, alt img tag, keywords field, tags and make sure you have a wordpress to blog about your keyword rich products with more kw rich (relevant) copy.

Keep it sime and stay focused on forward progress.... Kw research to publishing products and posts... And repeat.

thank you. Do you have any link building advice? I know it can be hard for Ecommerce online stores...

  • For link building, it has to be natural. Do not pay anyone to do it.

When you sell a great product, a great way, then you'll have some NATURAL link building happen.

That doesn't mean you don't go out and do some link building - though, what I like to do is guest post - I have a lot of people ask me to do guest posting. I do it readily, but with reservations.

I look at the site, and if it is a relevant category, I look at its marketing tactics. I look at SEMrush and Majestic SEO to see if it was punished when the Panda/Penguin updates came out. If it was, then I know they tend to do blackhat marketing techniques.

Also if I see a lot of spammy comments in their posts on their site, I also stay away.

If you have spammed sites and spammy links from these sites going to YOUR site, then it could hurt you. (So says a recent video by Matt Cutts)

But if you have a GOOD authoritative, RELEVANT site that you guest post on, and have a couple of links in the article to YOUR site, this is one of the best ways I've found to 'link build'.

Plus, it helps increase your online authority as well.

When people get to know you, other invitations to guest post/blog come your way.

If you're known as an authority, then people buy from you.

So I always take seriously ALL invitations to guest post on sites.

If you have an ECOMMERCE business its already an advantage on your end.

You can create awareness in Social Media like doing Facebook SEO and Youtube SEO(depends on your product)

But be active in selling it through Email Marketing, Mobile Marketing, Cold Calls.

Social Media Extensions would also greatly help to your campaign.

There are literally 1000's of way to seo. Its an evolving art - certainly not a science. However 1 thing holds true always.... relevancy and natural links are the way to go. Even 1 natural, relevant link will boost your serps higher than 100 low quality links.

SEO in eCommerce is very... whats the word I'm looking for... Complex. It's a branch of marketing, but SEO within itself is huge. It's usually always "costly" and "labor extensive". Where you want to save on either money or labor, you spend more on the other. Some companies spend thousands on trained employees to run the SEO aspect of their marketing team where some companies spend more on a marketing company that specialized in SEO. When people throw up a tiny squeeze opt in page or something and talk about SEO and getting traffic, it makes my damn eye twitch in the same way people say "Having a pet cat can be difficult!" when you run a huge farm of thousands of animals.

Narrow down what people are finding organically and directing themselves towards the most. This is obviously going to be difficult if you have very little traffic in the beginning. I don't know what other people call this, but I call it "Pump and Dump" - I hire a company with a budget and I know I won't see a good ROI but within a couple months I get some traffic to my site. Then I know that if I have 1000 items on a site and only 20% of my items are getting most of the traffic and conversions, I feature that 20% and put a lot of focus on those items and do what I can to get views and general interest in all of my other inventory and in my own ways, feature items as "Most viewed" or "recently purchased" but weren't actually the most viewed items or recently purchased.

All great tips up there. I just have some additional resources to share.

When it comes to SEO, nobody does it better than the folks at SEOmoz. This is their famous beginner guide, and is a must read for anybody venturing into this territory.

For images, check this out on how to do it correctly.

The ROI on SEO is pretty high, in fact higher than any kind of traditional marketing techniques.

Don`t forget forum posting as a great opportunity to create links and become popular, chose forums relevant to your activity and show your signature, try and help people with information relevant to your website, Blog commenting then it`s another great way to become popular. Already mentioned Facebook, Twitter and G+ will help a bunch to become known. And DO NOT buy FB likes or links, they are all robots and spammy links that will only harm your site in the long run.
