Playing Cards from China

I want to sell customized cards. And here on my country (Brazil), to print something like that, is very expensive.

I know the laws and the costs for shipping are different. But I don't even know how to start it. I estimated the value with a company there, and they told me $1.200,00 for 500 decks.

What I'd like to know:

- What now? I'll pay them and they send me the products? I have to contract here a shipping company and ask them to go there and get the products? The companies there usually already have a shipping company to delivery all around the world?

I did try to ask them to explain these questions but I didn't understand anything.

Could someone help me?

Thank you!

    as I know, several factors:
    1. paper material
    2. Size
    3 Quantity,
    4. Shipment by sea is better, as paper's weight is really high.

Yesterday, I asked one printing company for some catalogues for me, 18 pages, A4.
The cost for 500 pcs is similar as 1000pcs.
    As 1.6usd/pc for 500pcs, 0.9usd/pc for 1000pcs.

    Regards,

If any question, you could PM me.

You need to be sure who you are dealing with. Make sure you contact the actual manufacturer of the cards. If you deal with the manufacturer the price will be very far below what you have been quoted locally, but not if you buy from a wholesaler or agent. Printing in China is very low cost.

If you try to get general printers to quote you it will be a very frustrating job for you. I suggest instead that you look for a company that specializes in playing cards. I know there are some, and their prices would be better than general printers. There are specialist playing card producers in Taiwan as well as in mainland China and Hong Kong.

In my book on how to import from China I teach how to arrange with suppliers to get the best price and for them to handle the shipping of small quantities. 500 decks of cards will be heavy, but it will still most likely be cost effective to use air couriers with door to door delivery. I would not try to arrange the freight at your end because it will cost you too much. The suppliers will have negotiated the best rates because they are continually shipping goods out.

chenyanroger has made a good point also. Sometimes it will cost you almost exactly the same amount to buy 500 as it would cost you to buy 1,000. That often applies in the printing business because a large part of the cost is the setting up process, which can cost more than the paper or card and ink.

You wrote: "I know the laws and the costs for shipping are different.", but in fact in international trade there is a large part of it that is universal. I have importers using my guide to import into Germany, Belgium, USA, UK, Norway, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand..

    Hi,

I am a young, female designer from the North West of England and I run my own graphic illustration company, named Pixel Initiative.

This is an exciting year for me as I have recently launched my new Kickstarter campaign aiming to raise funds for my new playing card deck design titled "Fishing For Compliments".

There has been a great response so far from the Kickstarter audience and I have raised 20% in the first two days and also been selected as a Staff Pick. I have used various Playing Card, Fishing and also Crowd Funding forums to build an appetite for my product before launching and it has been amazing to see what the digital community can offer. The amount of helpful comments and advice has been the backbone of my achievement so far and it is obvious that a successful Kickstarter campaign is a social phenomenon.

The process of building a playing card has been enlightening also, from carefully revising printing and distribution companies that will deliver a high quality finish to the cards, to revising the archaic rules of indices (How to correctly place the card value in the top corners of each card face so the cards can be held in a fan and their numbers & suit are still visible). Listening to the advise of professionals is the key to understanding this market.

I would welcome any further support and pledges to help transform this dream into a proud moment of achievement, and share my unique and fresh playing card designs as a tangible product.

I am happy to share all of my printing knowledge regarding chinese printing companies with great quality and also my knowledge of shipping companies for those who are willing to back my project.
