Hi I'm building a Woocommerce Wordpress site for a client. The client is expecting more than 1000 logins in a particular hour everyday. We want to know the following:

1. Can a Wordpress woocommerce site take that much of traffic without problems.
2. What type of hosting should we have. We are considering Bluehost's dedicated server.

Please help

Go with Amazon webstore and don't worry about scalability.

With that level of activity I would not trust any system until it has been fully stress tested and proven to work.

I don't have experience with WooCommerce but I doubt that it's designed to scale to that volume. It seems that WooCommerce is designed for relatively quick and simple ecommerce sites.

You don't describe your traffic levels in detail but at that level you may actually need more than 1 dedicated server (1 DB and 1 web server). Either way my advice is to seek help from someone experienced with this kind of thing or at least talk to some shopping cart providers who regularly deal with that kind of volume.

What is the traffic/login rate now? "Expecting" thousands of sql transactions at "some point" is very different from the "right now/actual" queries.

I have to agree with OnlineStoreHelp about not using Wordpress for an "ecommerce" solution. Wordpress can scale fairly large without issue but the problem you'll run into is it choking sql. I would recommend you look into an actual commerce solution. I mean, don't get me wrong, Wordpress is a great piece of software but it has already been butchered up to be used as a CMS now but it's not an idea solution for an heavy ecommerce site, not a serious one.

I agree with OnlineStoreHelp, wordpress is not the best choice for building e-commerce site. You must consider the issue from a long-term point view. Even though it can take the traffic of 1000 logins now, how about 10000, 100000+? Make clear your requirements before making a decision.

Funny ... some of the biggest sites around with huge amounts of traffic use Wordpress. If you're expecting that kind of traffic, get a dedicated host irregardless of what platform you use. I have Woocommerce stores with thousands of products in them and they do fine.

WordPress is used on about 40% of all sites on the Internet so it's popular alright. However for sites with higher volumes you may need to look at a dedicated eComms platform like Magento.

But like Suzanne highlights, WP can handle the volume provided your infrastructure is solid.

Thank you very much everyone. We have decided to go with Wordpress and Woocommerce after going to all the advice we got here in this forum and other forums by wordpress, woocommerce and hosting experts as many of these people assured us that the software would take the load. Woocommerce was very easy to customize for our requirements and gave us exactly what we were looking for. We take the advice of these experts and are going ahead. We also decided to go with a fast dedicated server and appoint a guy to maintain and manage the server and the website.

I would recommend going with Shopify and not have to worry about volume. I personally use Magento for my ecommerce store, but that may be well beyond what you want to deal with, and If I had learned about Shopify earlier, I wouldn't have spent SOOOO much time learning and dealing with all of Magento's quirks. I only used woo commerce once and that was on a VPS. I didn't have that sort of volume though. Hope this helps
