ebay and dropshippers

I read somewhere that ebay will contact small shippers to find out if they are using dropshippers. If so they will downgrade you and make it difficult to continue doing business in this say. Is this true? If so, what can you do to prevent it. I'd still like to be able to carry no inventory and only buy and ship inventory when a customer buys from me.

Have not heard this but it would not surprise me at all. Ebay does not seem to want the small time sellers anymore and they just keep making it harder and harder for the smaller sellers to sell anything there.

It's true. eBay doesn't have a black and white stance on drop shipping, but they would greatly prefer it if inventory wasn't sent from a 3rd party. Anybody who says otherwise, is probably someone who is trying to sell you an "amazing guide on making millions on eBay with dropshipping!"

  • eBay does frown upon it - And I have heard of people being contacted where people have asked for the 'receipt' of the actual item.

They aren't 'punished' DIRECTLY if they haven't the receipt of the item, because if it was procured at a garage sale or other place like that, it is very difficult to produce one.

But, eBay does frown upon it - it is true.

However, the sellers are 'punished' INDIRECTLY if they do dropship. How? Well, let's say that you have a 3rd party shipper, and they process the sale that same day - but they don't submit the tracking number to you immediately. If you don't put in the tracking number on that day, then your items don't qualify for the Top-Rated Seller discount.

So, in that way you're not receiving the same benefits.

It's why I don't advocate dropshipping as a good business model on eBay. It's too much work for too little profit with too little control.

Yes, it can be done, and I do teach people who want nothing more than to do it, but it is very, very hard to get your foot in the door - and it takes a LONG long time to get it up and running with someone reputable - and for 'convenience?'

I have no idea why people say 'working 8 hours a day processing orders for 5 dollars of profit per order' is 'convenient' when I can sell 3-5 items a day for 1000 dollars of profit and go to the post office ONCE.

    THAT'S convenience.

The main problem with drop shippers if they delay shipment or run out of the product and are waiting to be bought back into stock it can delay your shipment to your customer by enough time for them to give you negative feedback on your account

Same if they accidentally pack the wrong item.

I recommend that you consider buying direct from the factories in small quantities if you want to make real profits.

Most people will tell you that you have to place huge orders to buy from the manufacturers, and that importing is difficult. I teach how to safely buy small or large quantities direct from real manufacturers at genuine factory prices and how to do the importing the easy way. There is no need to learn all the rules and regulations.

It is far better to sell small quantities at very high profit margins than to try selling against all those who sell the exact same products as one another at cutthroat prices.

Until you see what profit margins you can get by buying direct you will not know what you are missing out on by buying from wholesalers or dropshippers.

Normally they just ask you for your invoices and for the tracking numbers. There's not any good method to find out if you're dropshipping, unless the customer complains that the package arrived from Amazon, or other such method. Be sure to state on your sales page that the products may be "overstock" and are in the original boxes, or some such thing, to have an explanation.
