Hi all,
I have started an online store, where i am selling furniture items.
I am using Fedex and UPS for shipping the products under the weight range of 150Lbs.
But the problem is with the havier items like beds and sofas which are above the 150lbs weight range. When I searched that how to ship these items,I got the answer of LTL Shipping. But when I went to the LTL shipping companies the rates there I got were shocking. For example,
I got a LTL quote for shipping a product of 650lbs from NewYork(10128) to Los angeles, CA(90071).
The Price I got was2500$ .
That was really shocking, since the original price of the product was 500$ and intrestingly one of my competitors were selling that bed in 900$,while offering a FREE SHIPPING to their customers.

I'm totaly lost and confused about this, can anyone please help me in it?

I can give you a couple of recommendations for cheaper shipping cost. Call up Fedex and ask them about their Great Rate Services, they give out extremely competitive prices to fill their capacity. You will save at less 50% on shipping in US and even internationally. 2nd, start building a relationship with a logistics company and negotiate with them a feasible price for shipping your furniture piece. One of our family businesses is manufacturing furniture for the hotel industry, we sell furniture in containers and sometimes we send 1 piece sample to clients before the container load.

Hope this helps and if you would like specific info, you can hit me with a PM.

Good luck to your online business. Elisha

Well it was bumped by advertising spam, but here is some info for anyone in the future looking into this:

You need to get an account with UPS or R&L freight with negotiated rates. Discounts are typically 80%+ compared to their published rates (huge, I know). So that shipment of 650lbs from NY to LA, depending on the freight class, shouldn't be much more than $1,000. If you are lucky enough to be shipping items closer to freight class 50, then that rate could be down around $300-400.
