Trying to get off the ground

Okay I'm new here to the forum I've been lurking for awhile as a guest and following very closely and have absorbed a lot of good info. I have started my web site on woocommerce and filled it with products from chinavasion and some other products which I am importing. I have submitted my main product to a popular site and had it featured and I'm getting a ton of traffic but no conversions. I followed alksense's guide and put a hello bar on my site with a coupon code for 10% off and still no luck...I'm not sure if the item price is too high for people or if it's more of a novel item so people like to look and not buy...or if my web design is too bland and not really matching the theme of my site. I'm really just looking for some basic tips and tricks...I have submitted my site to the find and will soon submit to shopzilla. I have also submitted to google, I have adwords ppc but had to slow down because my charges were racking up quickly. My site is still under major construction and I'm looking for suppliers in my niche to drop ship most of my inventory and will probably ship the rest by myself or through a fulfillment center. I have signed up as an affiliate with think geek to try to capitalize on some of the traffic that is rolling through my site (1,000 hits a day) and I'm getting clicks but no real money yet. I'm getting roughly 30 hits a day from search engine traffic and my site is ranking on page 3 of google for the key word that I focused my SEO efforts on. I think I'm doing pretty well for just starting last week but I'm kind of stalled out and don't really know what else to do from here. Any basic pointers would be great from anyone here. My site is Tactical Tech Zone | Number 1 Tactical Tech SiteTactical Tech Zone and focuses around crossbows, home security, and other related gadgets and I'm expanding to add blow dart guns, slingshots, air soft guns, and other related weaponry. I'm not sure if I'm trying to cover too many categories or not and maybe I should just stick to crossbows...I'm definitely sticking with this site for awhile and developing it until it succeeds and will not be giving up any time soon....Once I have a clearer formula for success I will execute it until I achieve the desired result. Thanks for reading and any tips / critiques are greatly appreciated.

To me, this is a big 'no no'. Have your site in order before going live with any type of costly advertising campaign. If your ducks are in a row, those paid for clicks will turn into repeat customers. If not, well then you are just giving money away and it can cut into what little income you may be making.

Also, time, build slowly over time has been my greatest success online. Get a few projects up and rolling that you can work on constantly. Grow to fast and it's a recipe for disaster SEO wise and personally wise.

thanks for the info and yes I'm focusing on a more long term approach now but I just wanted to get the site up and running as I've heard that advice many times to get the experience under my belt and learning the ropes and what not.

    Meta,

You have about 3 seconds to capture someone attention when they visit your website. You site is very plain and vanilla. Your only using a text logo. I see nothing that makes me want to buy something from your site. You still have the woo themes and wordpress footer at the bottom. I see nothing about site security. Do you have a SSL Certificate? Even if your using Paypal I'd want to see one. Your using a free them with very few features. You got to be willing to spend some time and energy on the design or freelance it out to some who can. You can get very nice themes built for Woo from themeforest.net for around 50 bucks

I suggest doing some reading about site design and how it affects the online buying experience.

PM if you like some consultation on eCommerce design and setup.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is what you need to hear.

I do comend you for at least starting. Keep learning and tweaking you'll get there!

thanks for the honest criticism and yes it is what I need to hear, it's just that you get tunnel vision when you're inside of your own bubble and need someone else to take a look and point out the glaring holes for you as they can look at the site from the buyer's angle. thanks

anyways as an update for anyone who gives a turkey...I got my first sale and my SSL cert should be active tomorrow. I'm still deciding on a theme, I like this one called MJ something...I might go with that, but I have changed the background to black on my wootique theme to make it go with the theme of the site. Time for some advertising! Just hired a writer to write a 1000 word article and a graphics guy to create a banner to advertise with on buysellads, I'm addicted to this whole thing now.
