Hi
I was just wondering if anybody on here has had any experience in migrating a Wordpress blog over to a hosted eCommerce platform, such as BigCommerce?
Is it possible? Does it glitch? Is it better to start from scratch?

Thanks

Mark

Certainly don't start from scratch, you don't need to re-invent the wheel!

There's a pretty extensive conversation about this very subject here.

You can do bulk imports rather easily to Bigcommerce and moving images over is a breeze. I just went through a WP to Big Commerce conversion.

      Thank you for your responses.
One thing which I'm scratching my head over, at the moment, is the question of domains, and where do you ideally want to start from if aiming at both a store and an associated blog?
I started a WP blog first, and I used a 'main' domain name which I'd purchased from Big Daddy and hosted at HostGator. This particular domain is an add-on domain in my Hostgator account.
When initially setting up the blog, I used the domain as the blog address.
Now, it seems that what I should of done is set up the BigCommerce store first, using my domain name as the store address, and then set up the WP blog as an extension of that domain?
So, does it mean that I'm going to have to start the blog from scratch, as it has the domain name which the store should have?
      Hope this makes sense......
      Thanks

There's lots of ways you can go here Mark, but here's what I recommend:
        1. Install BigCommerce on the root domain (i.e. mydomain.com)
        2. Purchase a low-cost domain for the blog (i.e. mydomain.us) and host it with HG
        3. Install WordPress or you blogging platform of choice on the low-cost domain
        4. "Map" the low-cost domain to a subdomain location of your main site (i.e. myblog.mydomain.com)
This allows you to have a fully functional blog on the same site as your BigCommerce store. For a detailed guide on mapping a domain name to the subdomain of your BC store, see this tutorial.

          Hi Dave
Some of the later bullet points, contained within the page which your link directed me to, have no content, only 'now that'?
          Regards
          Mark

Instead of going with wordpress, you must choose magento as your ecommerce system as features in wordpress are limited for ecommerce.

I don't agree with this at all. Magento has an incredible learning curve and is an awful solution for newbies that are trying to stay on a budget. Unless you are willing to set aside 3 months to learn Magento, or hire a team to help you, Magento is not the way to go!
