To WP or not to WP, that is the question.

I have a new product that I would like to sell but not through online transactions. I want to make an easy site that allows me to upload weekly pictures of these items and lists pricing that customers can call or email me to purchase. I would also like to SEO the shizzle out of the site. With recent posts indicating WP doesn't allow commerce sites is there a better option? Thanks everyone!

I would go with a do it yourself HTML / CSS site, you will get the best customization out of that and the SEO possibilities are endless compared to having to get plugins for simple things like META tags and sitemaps.

My only problem with that is that I am a sales person by trade, not a web guy :-) I have paid others to make previous sites. I was hoping this was one I could do myself and learn a little, just not that much.

As long as you are not taking credit cards on line, a wordpress site would work great for you. In fact you can find a nice single product theme at Woothemes or Themeforest. Since you are not a techy, having a CMS (wordpress) will make updating your website that much easier. Most of the premium themes have areas to create and add front page sliders, portfolios and testimonials. Just read the reviews to see how easy the theme is to work with. I have a favorite theme that is incredibly easy to work with but have had to work with other themes that require custom post types and they are a pain in the booty.

If you are scared about playing with wordpress, go open an account with Weebly.com . I have used them for single products and while not as refined as wordpress, it is easy to use.

Yeah, I imagine Wordpress would be fine. Get them to email you, or submit their emails to you through a mailing list or something, and do your sales stuff off the main site.

I would also choose WP, but as you know to use WP for your ecommerce website you need to find a theme, then to select a plugin, like wp e-commerce plugin or woocommerce. Then you need to install it and make necessary settings and it is not usually easy. Furthermore, updates of these plugins break the whole site and you have to start from the beginning. I'm just tired of all these half-done wordpress ecommerce plugins! Why can't any good developer just develop something easier and in Wordpress? I think I should develop it myself.

For some reason my post here from yesterday is gone, so I will summarize what I said about SEO for your site again:

DO NOT participate in link schemes or link networks
DO NOT hire some random SEO firm

In today's Google slow-n-steady wins the race. Do not participate in anything artificial at all unless you want to get filtered from Google's results.

Use these techniques for natural growth:

Authority forums & blogs - Find 2+ authority forums and 2+ authority blogs within your specific market and become a valued member of each. Visit each daily and post valuable info that will help the users of the communities. Once established, place a link to your website within your signature file in the forums.

Followings at social sites - Create a Google+, Facebook & Twitter profile for your business and post links to valuable information within your market. Also, interact with people that seem active within the topic. Both of these techniques will help you build a following at the social networking websites. You can then direct that following to valuable content on your website.

Network within your market - Reach out to highly related websites within your market and ask them to mention you somewhere on their website.

These natural promotion techniques will help you get direct traffic and help you brand yourself within your market. More importantly, these natural techniques will help you gain authority and rankings in Google.

I hope this helps and good luck to you!
