Switching from one ecommerce solution to another

So I started out on Shopify because it was the most simple. Now I feel as if I've gotten a solid grasp of things and would like to move to Bigcommerce because I feel as if there are a ton of more options available.

However, I'd like to maintain the same look and feel of my current site. I probably should contact Bigcommerce to see if my site will be compatible, but I figured I'd see if anyone else here has experience with moving their site to another platform.

Big commerce template system is very unique and complex, You will not be able to just transfer over an existing site, you'll going to need heavy modification and customization.

My advice, pick a BC template to start, then start tweaking or page a designer.

As HerdFan has pointed out, there's no such thing as "compatible" templates between hosted solutions. Each platform has their own template system in place, so it's not as simple as just moving the template over. Your best bet will be to choose the best built-in BigCommerce template and go from there. You can either work through making tweaks yourself or find someone experienced with the template system on BC and hire them. An elance.com listing should land you plenty of candidates for $10/hr or less. Good luck!

Depending on how skilled you are working with the e commerce platforms you can advance your skills by switching to a more user based platform.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to say if you can duplicate the template or come real close without seeing the website. If you know CSS and HTML, you'd be surprised what you can do with BigCommerce. Because you can create custom panels, there's virtually no look you can't achieve if you know what you're doing. If you don't, do as Dave suggests and hire someone to do it for you. I'd be pretty surprised if someone who knows what they are doing can't come real darned close to what you've got at Shopify.
