Sourcing product imagery...

Hello all, how would you go about getting bespoke product imagery for your site? I'm not meaning individual product shots, but photos for main page headers where several products have been staged together and photographed.

Now obviously the supplier isn't going to provide these shots and you have to create them yourself, but how would you actually get the products to shoot? Would a supplier provide samples for such occasions, or do you have to buy them yourself?

    Hi Boofit.. if i understand you correctly.. can these headers/banners not made by grouping your existing product photographs?

    IMO, the header and other site graphics will feature the items that you actually sell.. i dont find it necessary to shoot them yourself if you already have good resolution images of your products..

    But doing your own photos will make your images stand out .. in such case you can always ask the supplier to ship out some samples..

      Oh absolutley they can. However if you wanted to stage a shot, for example a close-up of a couple of pairs of trainers in an urban environment, you'd need actual product.

      Yep, which is what I was initially asking - do suppliers send out samples for such purposes? If so, do they require them to be returned etc?

        We usually get our graphic designer to merge product images together and create nice banners like this for us. It's not as ideal as actually taking new photos with all products next to each other, but it's sure a lot cheaper and easier!
