Best etsy-clone e-commerce platform

Hi Warriors,
I'm new to the forum, so I apologize if this question has been "asked and answered" before (I did search this forum and the Website Design forum but didn't find the answer I was looking for).

I want to establish a multi-store online shopping mall targeted at a specific customer market. The most succint way for me to describe it is as an etsy-clone.

So far, I've found the following platforms that at least market themselves as being able to accomplish what I want:
* Agriya's BuySell
* SiteMile's Walleto
* WPMU's MarketPress
* iScripts Multicart

I'm looking for feedback on what people think is the better product for my project and why. Also, if you know of other alternatives that are better than the ones above please let me know.

As I'm targeting a hobbyist market, I don't want to charge people to populate a store - they will pay based on their revenue; so, I'd like to avoid sinking a large sum of money into this effort before knowing it will fly.

Some additional key things I'm looking for...

On the e-commerce side, each store owner should be able to maintain their own storefront and have some customization options (themes); although I would like to control/manage product categories centrally (i.e., from a master list). Obviously the main mall front should be able to highlight products from different stores.

The main payment option for store owners would be through revenue share (e.g., 10% of revenue goes to mall) and the platform should support an easy management of this (preferably not just through Paypal). It would be nice if the platform could also support a "monthly rent" option at the same time.

In addition to the e-commerce side, I would like to be able to offer the individual stores the ability to blog, and have an overall site forum, although I understand I can probably do this outside of the e-commerce function.

I can get by with HTML, have some experience with Joomla, and am comfortable working in WordPress. The last time I programmed anything was 30 years ago and that was in IBM 360 Assembler, so don't give me something that requires any PHP coding.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and advice.

John

    Yup, I was going to say etsyclone.com if you're looking for off the shelf. herdfan2005 beat me to it.

    But you're still going to need some customization even with a packaged solution. I see that you want a 10 percent cut from sales, and that would definitely need some working through the code of whatever it is you go with eventually. I doubt it if any of the products available now have that kind of built in functionality. I might be mistaken though, so be sure to check that out.

      Actually when I loked into Estyclone, I believe it is set up to take paypal daisy chained payments solution. Meaning, payment is don three ways, from buyer to seller to admin

      Here is what Etsy clones says is a feature:

      utomated commission payments for Getsy owners

      Every seller in a Getsy marketplace will need to obtain a pre-approval key from his PayPal account and enter it in his store settings*. When a seller receives a payment for an item, the system will automatically withdraw the dues (commission) from the seller's PayPal account, and transfer the money at his expense to the PayPal account of the marketplace owner.

      *Opening an Etsy Clone store will not be possible without using a valid pre-approval key.

    I wouldn't recommend any "popular" clone software. Most clones are poorly coded, i.e. full of bugs.

    Hi

    i 've been researching this for a while now, as an alternative to etsyclone, getsy, because i am not happy at all wit it.

    The best option e-commerce wise i have seen ( also financially) is prestashop - with a module.

    OpenCart with a module is a way more effective and less expensive solution. The module is paypable, but its only about 100 $ range, so no real expense.

    I found a great Woocommerce for Wordpress extension that does that. I'm thinking about buying it and launching an etsy clone myself.

      Hey JohnGH, did you ever make a decision on an etsy clone? Can you tell us more about which one you chose and why?

      I am interested if someone could provide some pros and cons on the different ones out there.

      Thanks!

        I did end up finding the product vendor extension with unlimited licensing, so bought it and it's really great. I've been testing it out on plr style dot com and haven't run into any kinks or bugs. It's an extension for Woocommerce, but this one I found off of the Woothemes.com site. Woo has one but it is not unlimited licensing.

    Hi John,

    Its Better to go with Agriya's Buysell, hence its not only built with etsy functionality , it has multi vendor, multiple payment gateway option. It also has user-friendly codes which can be customized...Hope it matches your requirement.
