Just launched first E-Commerce site

I would appreciate your comments on an E-Commerce site that we just launched:
http://www.autismlighthouse.com

The implementation was a bit tricky, as we wanted to not only sell products, but also provide a lot of information to people affected by autism.

Site looks pretty good. Doesn't even look like a ecommerce site, looks more a blog to be. Very happy you that you have taken time to build a site for such a cause, people will really like that. Best of luck with your site and hope it does well.

Not like a typical e-com site. However, I think it is the right approach as you are selling medicines. The buying process is different that of a typical shopping product. People will not buy medicines without supporting information. Wish you a good luck!

I like it. I think with products like Medicines, where more content is required than your typical product, it's worth investing in marketing.

Your site looks great. The content positions you as an authority in autism, which I believe will be really attractive to visitors.

One observation is that the email sign up form for the $10 off coupon code could hamper sales. If someone is ready to buy, they may stop to sign up for your list and then get distracted that way. One option is to leave suggestions of a coupon code off altogether, another is to just publish it right on the page (could ignite sales that way). You can do some testing. Best to your success.

I think... in terms of selling... my biggest piece of advice would be to have a more specific call to action on purchasing an item in the viewable window on your home page. When I go to your page, other than you indicated it was an ecommerce site here, I would not have known that you sold things without looking a bit more. Perhaps changing the "Supplements" to "Buy Supplements" or something like that would be an easy fix.

I am not sure what your primary goal with the site is, but if it is to make sales, my opinion is that you can help your customers find the store part of your website a bit easier.

    Thanks for sharing.

You site is great. It provides some useful information in addition to products. It's user-friendly. I have only one suggestion. You can implement live chat to your site, which enables you to monitor and chat with visitors in real time. It may help you provide superior customer service and improve sales conversion. The are some good chat plugins for wordpress, such as ClickDesk, Comm100 Live Chat, Zopim.

It definitely has a lot going for it as many people have mentioned above. I have found that blog posts have added a lot of organic traffic to my sites which I have been able to turn into profit from the ecommerce aspect, so I can't see anything wrong right off the bat.

Nice man, my sister just graduated college for special needs education. You should also put up some information about Autism Awareness Day and some blue lights to sell (its april 2, my sister always puts blue lights outside for the whole week lol).

    Hi there,

Congratulations on the launch! The design looks good, but I'm with others who have said it looks more like a blog than an actual online store. Depending on how people come to the store, they might get confused. For example, if I wanted to buy supplements and ran a search for autism supplements and I landed on your site, I wouldn't see a storefront, I'd see articles. There's a link in your navigation bar, but IMO, it's not clear enough.

When people arrive at a store, they want to see products so I suggest having a stronger CTA to get to the store... or use Autism supplements - with little to no side effects as a landing page when you are promoting the actual products.

I agree with many of the previous posts.

However, I assume that presenting yourself as (first and foremost) a reputable source of information and advice, rather than going for the hard sell, could in fact be greatly advantageous for this site, in the long run leading to more conversions.

Site looks generally good, and it's fantastic that you understand the importance of providing information and being useful instead of simply peddling a product. I can tell you care about what you're doing, which is great.

Here's a suggestion for improvement: On your supplements page, you present all 4 options equally, with the same buttons, same style, and they even look identical except for the header. This can be a bit of a "paradox of choice" situation, where potential customers might stare at it for a while and then choose not to choose, because they don't know which option is best or right for them.

What to do about that? You might eliminate options altogether, or you might highlight one option as the bestseller. Focus on the benefits better. Don't make your customer have to think or put in time/effort/energy into figuring out what to buy. Direct his attention and lean on him to buy something in particular.

    Experiment, experiment, experiment! Good luck.

Nice little wordpress site. I do have to ask though, are any proceeds of what you sell going to an autism charity? Since I am assuming you will get a lot of people looking at autism, people will want to know that some of that money is going to help the cause. I could be wrong but since you are using autism to sell, you want to be careful about misleading people that might buy thinking its helping a worth cause.

Looks good, about us page provides a great story behind the websites and your reasons for wanting to help people with Autism.

    The only thing that I felt wasn't congruent with the site was the marketing speak at the bottom of your gluten free diet sales page;

"Originally, I thought about pricing this special report at $20. Then, I realized that I wanted to get this cookbook in the hands of many families that have a loved one affected by autism.
So, I won’t be selling this special report at $20 – or even $10.
You will get getting this special report for only $5.

I personally read this exact line or a variation of it hundreds of times of the internet and so have most other people. It sets off the BS alarm and leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Try a more honest approach and just be upfront about the low $5 price.

Typo - You will get getting this special report for only $5.

Looks nice - out of curiosity, why did you decide to go with WP instead of something like OSCommerce or Magento?

If you did it because you plan not to be a large store but rather a combo eCommerce site/blog, then WP was probably the best approach - just wanted to be certain you knew of all the options.

    Best of luck!
