Buying on Amazon, Dropshipping on eBay?

I've seen a few people that made ads on eBay selling an item from Amazon and pricing it higher. When someone orders the item from eBay, the seller buys the item from Amazon and ships it to the eBay buyer's address.
Is this a good idea? Has anyone tried it before? I'm thinking of doing it but I want learn from other people's experiences and knowledge before I try it out.

I could also order the items through my Amazon affiliate links and get some extra cash from the sale.

Opinions please?

There are a lot of threads on this exact topic in the forums but to sum up what the majority of people think (including myself): this does not work as long term profitable business model and it isn't worth your time.

I personally wouldn't drop ship ANYTHING on eBay (I stopped selling on there years ago) but if you're considering entering eCommerce / eBay as a merchant my advice is to go straight to the manufacturers for your products.

There is A LOT more profit to be made than there is by taking the "easy" route and trying to source products off of Amazon or any of the big drop ship supplier directories.

    Hope that helps!

      Been there and done this.

100% correct. Is not long term solution and requires higher than normal inputs to make work.

When something goes wrong, it really goes wrong and you're SOL because you're not in control of much of the process and you're trying to blame someone else for their mistake and the other person doesn't want to hear about it because they bought it from you.

Too many other lucrative ideas for eBay to build one where you're not in control.

All depends on the individuals financial goal is, but I prefer to thrive rather than to survive.

I think you're right. I have listed an item on eBay from Amazon, it costs $90 on Amazon and I'm selling for $135. Just made the ad in a few minutes:
Sterling Silver Twist Cable Cuff Bracelet 14k Yellow Gold Plated | eBay

I will let this ad run for the rest of the week, just to see how it goes. But I do agree, it doesn't seem like a good idea anymore. Because if something goes wrong or changes at Amazon, I'm the one to blame. It sounds too dangerous and risky. I do have 1 watcher on the ad though... but I'm going to end it.

      Hi Temper,

I was reading your thread...and since you asked for opinions...here you go...

Selling on Ebay and using Amazon as your source is possible...yet tricky...

I've bought and sold on Ebay for years...and continue...

Yet the dropshipping method always interested me...primarily because of the
shipping ease...you don't have to package and ship yourself...

And in theory...this is true...no accumulation of products...packaging supplies,
back and forth to the post office...I could go on and on...

Ok, a while back, I grab a course (video) on this Ebay/Amazon business model
from Roger Langrille. It was a series of videos on exactly this...for $47...yet to
get more sources the upgrade was $247...if I'm not wrong...

Now the upgrade wasn't really necessary starting out...(optional later if you choose)...The Ebay Basics was several videos that Langrille showed/explained step-by-step how to do that business mode...and even has a currently running private forum for all members...a running tally on everyones successes, problems, questions...etc

So after studying the videos...and studying the forum...I decided to try this business model...

I found a few items on Amazon that met the 'guidelines' and posted on Ebay...and was surprised that I received a sale the same day...

I've subsequently sold many items...and profited...yet, as many of the successful forum members state...it takes an enormous amount of time...

It can be done...if you've got the time...you can list any and all products for 30 days and put them on the back-burner...you'll be notified when sales happen...

Basically, it's a numbers game...the more products, the add'l chances of sales...

Personally, I've recently backed away from this as I don't have the time...with
running 20+ niche sites and 3 authority sites...they take up quite a bit of time...

Yet, if and when I decided to try the dropshipping/Ebay model again...I believe
a more productive avenue to follow is something I've considered for awhile...

And it's this...years ago, after massive research into this 'dropshipping model' and legitimate wholesale sources...I found the 'golden nugget' of wholesale sources, training...and just about anything necessary related to online/offline marketing practices...

Chris Malta's "Worldwide Brands" is the ultimate manifesto on this subject matter...The membership to his WB's was initially a hefty one-time payment...I think around $300...which I grabbed...way back 'in-the-day'...now he's got an easy payment option...

That company has 100's of legitimate wholesalers, manufacturer's...and everything imaginable in the training area...

Anyone could get a fantastic education in all aspects of IM...if they went nowhere else other than WB's...it's that comprehensive, current and seriously honest!!!

It's Chris Malta's business...and he runs it efficiently and honestly...

Inclusive in the membership is everything you'd ever need regarding Ebay training and dropshipping...the honest and legitimate way to run your business...

One more top notch marketer is Jim Cockrum...another of the very very few honest and stand up entrepreneurs...and he's got some seriously relevant material along these lines...

Even though I've found these two years ago...I've wandered off many a-times and found myself way the hell out in left field...or maybe it was right field...trying something I thought was faster and easier...and much to my chagrin...have learned the hard way...

So to wrap this up...bottom line...consider all of the advice from the various comments to your inquiry...and after separating the wheat from the chaff...go with your own intuition...

Hope this monologue is of some benefit to you...hell, we all need a little direction occasionally...good luck...

And holler at me...if you need anything further answered...and I'll try my best...

If you are drop shipping from Amazon directly, expect some bad feedback. When someone purchases an item, and sees that it keep from Amazon, they flip. Never understood why, to me everyone wins. The best thing would be to have it come to you and change the wrappings, but it's just not worth the effort to me.

As others have said be very careful. In theory it looks like it should work, and in practice it does, but it is not a long term model. Plus what happens if the item on Amazon sells out, is not the product that you thought it was and is an older model? You get the bad feedback
