Need tips for eBay resale

I'm fairly new to earning money online and I'm brand new to this forum (so sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I didn't think it fit that well anywhere else).

I want to get into selling items on eBay, but Australia has limited options for drop-shipping to my knowledge and I'm new to all of this.

My questions are: Can this be a profitable thing to do?

What kind of items can I buy that will resell well on ebay?

Where can I buy things that will sell from cheaply?

What is the best way to ship things cheaply in terms of packing material or shipping costs (keeping in mind I'm in Australia)?

I should also note that I don't have a large capital, so items costing hundreds of dollars won't be much of an option to begin with, though I'd love to hear about them to know what I can do on a larger scale when I have money to invest.

If I was you I would stay away from drop shipping on eBay. There terms of service does not allow drop shipping and if your drop shipper fails to deliver the product to your customer you will have to refund them and if it happens more than once eBay will almost certainly close your account down and hold your funds (Trust me they did it to me they held £500 for 4 months!) Instead invest a little money and by products wholesale and your profit margins will probably end up being better. Invest maybe $100 in buying some products and if they sell well buy some more and keep scaling it up.

There are loads of reliable wholesale sites on the net for example dhgate, aliexpress etc its just doing your research to see what sells and how much people are willing to pay for it.

halfsaint has offered what I consider good advice and then spoiled it by adding some bad advice.

The good advice is to avoid dropshipping on eBay, and instead buy some products on a small scale to get started.

The bad advice is to buy from wholesale sites. Firstly why buy wholesale when you can buy small quantities direct from manufacturers overseas. If you buy from manufacturers instead of from wholesalers, what halfsaint wrote: "your profit margins will probably end up being better", will not apply. Instead, your profit margins will definitely end up being vastly better. No probably about it.

Secondly if you are going to follow such advice, don't just go to any sites recommended off the cuff on forums. At least check them out for adverse reports. As an easy first step you can search for them on Ripoff Report | Scams, reviews, complaints, lawsuits and frauds. File a report, post your review. Consumers educating consumers. where you will find the two mentioned in the quote above appear to have a very bad reputation.

If you want to find real manufacturers you need to know that most of the popular "wholesale sites" list huge numbers of suppliers calling themselves manufacturers but they are in fact traders. The profit difference between buying from wholesalers or traders and direct from manufacturers can be astronomical.
