Hello All,

I am looking to venture into the unknown and start selling myself. I have helped clients over the years sell and market but have never had to source the product myself and actually run an e-commerce business.

Some of you may shoot me down for the way in which I have gone about this, but I have built the site first with no intention of starting soon - an idea popped into my head a year ago or such and planned it on paper then built the site. It is only now I have decided to push it through and go ahead with the business.

The site can facilitate both me selling items as well as others (vendors but not auction style). There are other features such as completing a look etc and advice from stylists all of which is sorted.

Company and such is also sorted.

My question is all around products and getting people to sell on my new ecommerce site. It is not going to be around the etsy model, I want to start out selling myself then open the marketplace doors to other vendors. Would you suggest I try out dropshipping or simply try to find sellers for my site? If dropshipping is the way, have you guys any links to worldwide services?

Basically what would you suggest as a means of getting products for a fashion accessory store.

Thanks

Take your time. I was really surprised at the quality of the products and the low prices. Plus, you have eBay and PayPal to back you up if you have a problem.

In my case, I only purchase from seller who had 98.percent positive feedback and above.

I was very please with the products they shipped me for free. Even the goods from abroad got to me within two weeks. The accessories from the U.S. seller got to me within days.

      It was a good experience.

    Hi Stuart,

I think lastreporter's suggestion has a lot of merit, but if you want regular supplies I suggest direct importing.

Profit margins can be mind blowing for people used to the low margins on dropshipping or buying from wholesalers.

Fashion accessories can be bought in small quantities from manufacturers, but watch out for the multitude of suppliers claiming to be manufacturers, but who in reality are wholesalers or agents, and they take a big slice out of your profit. Most popular sourcing websites don't verify manufacturing credentials. In fact verification procedures in most cases are a joke.

Don't just think of China. There is great potential for such products in Taiwan and Thailand, and they are quite competitive with Chinese companies.

Most small manufacturers of fashion accessories have a large product range and many of them will allow small orders of assorted items. The large companies will often do so, but generally there is little benefit in dealing with them. The smaller ones will usually give you better service.
