Hello, Im not new but this is my first post. I own a website and I use a dropshipper for my products. The question I have is Return address for my customers to return their products. I have my business address posted on my website but the address my customers need to return their products to is not posted on my website. Should I just give them the address when they ask for an RA# or should I just post the return address in my return policy and put something like my" warehouse"? You know customers may wonder why my address is at point A and my warehouse address is 800 miles away at point B. I sure could use your help, advice and opinions with this matter. Thank you verick07

  • If there is an issue, have them return the items to YOUR place.

This is to keep your dropshipper honest, and so you can do some QA work.

You want to make sure they're really sending out the items that you're advertising.

In addition, you can spot any sort of abnormalities/price gouging. For example, if the dropshipper is charging you 15 dollars to ship something, but on the invoice/box you see that it was only 8.73 to ship to that person, then you can see that the dropshipper isn't being very honest and they're gouging you. (I know this from experience)

So, it's a way of keeping them in check. Plus, if there really is nothing wrong with the item, the next time it sells you can just ship it form your house and not have to worry about the dropshipper taking forever with tracking numbers/fulfillment, etc. (I like the control anyway.)

In addition, you can get the items from the dropshipper to get some reconnaissance to see if you can find out where THEY get the items, to then reverse-engineer where the item is manufactured - and then increase your margins by wholesaling.

There is nothing wrong with having a company address that is different then your drop shipper. Even Amazon is based in Seattle but has warehouses all over, just like you. I always use a PO box and make sure your return policy states they have to go through your return authorization (Built into most carts), and you can then tell them, where to send the product.

Good advice above but you should have already had some friends buy products from your drop shipper to test that already IMO.

Yes, this is true - but there is also a difference between the initial orders, and the complacency of a dropshipper over time.

Also - if there is an 'issue' with an item, it is best to have them send it to you, and not back to the warehouse.

An initial test order doesn't necessarily mean that the item has anything wrong with it.

But the ones that elicit returns are the ones that might need closer scrutiny - so those are the ones I want to look at personally.

Almost every other eCom website has their warehouse and their office at 2 different places. Also since both the components - office and the warehouse perform a different function it makes sense if you have different addresses.

I have worked with some decent ecom websites and they used to give return address on the invoice (like a footer) and in the order confirmation email.

Hope my first post here helps
