What do you do when you get ripped off?

Fortunately it's been a while since I got stung by an unscrupulous Chinese supplier, but there has been an occasion or two in my past where I've received one too many devices that were broken out of the box, and a single instance of someone taking my money and running (made the mistake of trusting someone outside of escrow).

Sometimes I managed to resolve the issues, others I spent countless hours trying to right the wrong, only to repeatedly hit brick walls.

But, what have you had to do to get issues resolved with suspect dropshippers/wholesalers?

    Hi Oliver,

Sorry to read of your problem, Sadly this is an all too familiar story, so you should find someone on WF.who can tell you how they dealt with it.

Unfortunately I see no answer but to cut your losses and find a better supplier. If you use escrow, are you using a reliable company like escrow.com? Few suppliers on the big sourcing platforms will accept escrow.com If you use the free escrow service provided by Alibaba or AliExpress, don't forget to read the fine print.

Conditions for disputing a payment are not straightforward and have a strict time limit.

You might consider an alternative business model, and that is buying small quantities direct from real manufacturers. You can do this very safely.

lastreporter also has a similar viewpoint, but I am sure such concerns are due to people not knowing how to safely source products.

This applies to suppliers in every country, and I also teach how to locate suppliers in any country, because there are great profits to be made buying from the most surprising places in addition to China.

I imported from many countries during the 22 years I ran my importing business and the franchisees I had in 4 countries followed my methods. Most orders were placed in China, and neither I nor any of my large number of franchisees were ever ripped off.

There were occasionally quality problems, but these were easily resolved without any conflict. It is important to know how to do business in China.

When I first started importing I did so because I had been buying locally manufactured products and suffered from indifferent quality, and poor customer service. I started importing from China and enjoyed vastly superior quality, brilliant service, and profit margins that went through the roof.

Don't write off Chinese products just because most people don't know how to safely source and ensure that they get best prices together with quality and reliability.

perhaps BBB can help you resolve the issue with the seller or
you can post a review at Rip off report to warn other people about the seller

I don't deal with Chinese importers. I work with two factories. One is local; one is in Europe.

I thoroughly researched them before doing business, including checking out their references. I slowly began to buy from them and turned around a small amount of inventory to see how they fulfilled their orders and backed their products.

It took me over a year to find these two manufacturers. It's hard work and takes a lot of patience.

I make a good profit selling their products.

Again, I do not deal with Chinese manufacturers for a myriad of reasons, which are obvious to anyone who seriously researches the markets.

That's my take on how not to get ripped off.

    Hey man,

When this stuff happened to be back in the day, I just walked away from it. Your going to be spending too much time fighting over it, and lose track of your main goal.... building a online store.
