Do you think that consumers are leery of purchasing things like fairly expensive jewelry from Amazon? Is the insurance you can purchase through amazon adequate to cover a $2500 item being shipped. I am thinking of selling in a similar niche, but would not do it, if anticipated conversion rates were a lot lower than average. Any insight would be appreciated.

While I purchase lots of stuff from Amazon, I've never purchased really, really expensive jewelry (have seen how expensive it can get on there). With that said, I wouldn't have any problem doing so because I have purchased so many things and have never had a problem.

I would just make sure the item is of high-quality and what it claims to be, make sure to get the insurance, and review the refund policy for those kinds of items. I would read all the comments and the comments on similar items. I also like getting stuff that's shipped and sold by Amazon, especially when it's more expensive.

That's just my process when I buy stuff. If all of that checks out, I would go for it. I should also say that I'm the kind of person that likes to keep what I consider more expensive pieces put up. I mostly just like to have them to look at like a lot of the celebs seem to do. :-)

From a marketing standpoint, I think the promotion would be worth it. The conversion rates for stuff on Amazon is really high because there is a trust factor. Even if the conversion rates are low during some parts of the year, you know it's going to peak around the holidays and what not because of the urgency.

I think that as long as it's straight from Amazon, people trust them pretty well. It seems like a good amount of people buy things like high end watches, cameras, and more without hesitation.

Are you shipping it yourself, or having Amazon do fulfillment for you? If you are doing it for yourself, then your price should include rnough to cover shipping via a FedEx or something similar with insurance, unless youi want to self insure and depend on the service record of FedEx or whomever.

No, Amazon would do it all. I have had some success with Amazon on some items in the hundreds, conversions in the 5-10% range. Would like to get into the thousands of dollars product range but want to avoid it if the conversions would be less than 1% because, people may not want to ship more expensive items like jewelry.

I think it depends on the category of products.

I have a review site that targets high-end kitchen products that converts fairly well. On the other hand, I have another site that targets women's watches and that sh*t just doesn't convert at all!

It is not uncommon for products costing thousands - or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to be purchased directly through Amazon, however most of which may by-pass affiliate links. But you're not going to get these types of orders by ranking "review sites" in Google, as is so commonly advertised and touted around this forum.

To maximize conversion rates, top Amazon affiliates consistently position themselves with high visibility in front of their targeted prospects. IMO, article syndication in niche-relevant online/offline publications is the easiest way for rapid recognition in nearly all commercially viable markets.

Marketing techniques may vary, but a common element among the most successful Amazon affiliates is building niche lists of proven buyers, then promoting incrementally higher end products by email, social media, webinars, local seminars, telemarketing, mobile marketing, direct mail, and even direct sales.

Note: It is against Amazon's TOS to use your direct affiliate link with the above marketing methods. Instead, link to your own intermediary landing page.

Good to know, for your watches site, are some of your keywords brand names of watch models?

Good luck getting those commissions. That is all I want to say. BTW, look at the fine print as I have found that to be a real eye opener. Smart people realize that most companies are super at not paying you. So far I have been pay by amazon. However, big ticket items are not easy to move.
