I was wondering how firms calculate this.

Given we have all the keyword research in place using market samurai how could an eCommerce owner project sales based on this data and estimate the cost of the campaign.

or are they any tools or service that can help with the data mining and reporting?

Unfortunately this post if for the Gurus, smart asses and elites.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Step one would be to look at their analytics and figure out their average conversion rate for their current keyword traffic - you can (and should) work to increase the rate once you have them as a client, but to get initial projections together you should stick to known variables.

If you know that 2 out of 100 visitors convert, and they make $X with that, then you can use that as a starting point to estimate how much they would make by increasing the same kind of traffic.

Yes its a start up business so they have to statistics at all to work on. Would there be a way to use they competitors info? and if so is there anyway to get hold of this info?

Channel adviser uses the product data feed to make projections, is the a way of doing this or using another company that can?

What I do in that situation is recommend they pony up a few bucks for a PPC campaign to do some keyword testing. Since you don't know what words convert yet, or how good of a job their site does at turning the visitor into a customer, the last thing you want to do is make any promises or spend a ton of time optimizing a site for the wrong keywords.

Starting with $3,000 ($100 per day for a 30 day test) is usually a good way to go - spend too little and you won't get enough data to make decisions. But you will get SOME sales, and you'll be able to test a variety of different keywords to see what worked and an average conversion rate. Then it's just a matter of optimizing for those words and tweaking the site to get the conversion rate up.
