Quick question about domain set-up

Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to help.

I am new to web design and I am by no means a web builder or designer... Way over my head! LOL. But I am "playing around" a bit.

My question is this...
I want to set-up a sub domain in Go Daddy and I want it set-up like this... www.subdomain.mysite.com. However when I add a sub domain it turns out like this... www.mysite.com/subdomain.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Also, if I have Wordpress installed on www.mysite.com do I also need to install WP on the subdomain? (I would like a different theme on the sub domain)

Thanks for your help. It is very appreciated!

Welcome to godaddy hosting... Never works like it should. Have fun on customer support with them. Normally, in a normal hosting environment you are correct, you would set up a subdomain and it would show as sub.mysite.com . You then would need to install wordpress on the subdomain, as well as the same or a different theme. So to answer your question, yes, you can add a different theme to the subdomain.

Go to your cpanel & create a subdomain.

xyz.domain.com is an example of subdomain but domain.com/xyz means there is a new directory created with name xyz under domain.com.

The access to cpanel is provided to each buyer with the Host.

For more help, you can simply email or call on Toll Free, they work quick.

      Thanks Guys.

I did talked to Go Daddy and I was told everything is set-up right and I just needed to wait for the domain to propagate. This was about 12 hours ago. The domain shows up when I enter mysite.com/example so I am guessing that it has nothing to do with propagating. I just have something set-up wrong.

Thinking back... I beleive 247vaservices has it correct. I did create a directory also when I added the sub domain. I will try another sub domain without a directory and see what happens.

I wish I would of went with Host Gator.

      Again thanks for your help!

That's Godaddy hosting for you. Cpanel is easy. Hostgator, Hostmonster, etc. all have cpanel. Have no clue how to advise with Godaddy hosting except not to use Godaddy hosting for anything.

I just signed up with lightening base I am very happy with their support. Assistance via email is literally under a minute. Not an affiliate, long time lurker, and new war room member.
