Hello fellow warriors, and how are you?
My name is Reagen. And I am very new in the online scene. I was hoping all of the experts here can help me with some advice?

Recently, I moved back to Japan and with a friend decided to start an online shop. We would sell anime/manga related stuff, from CD/DVD/Blu-Rays, figures, card games, to little trinkets and cosplay items. These items which usually has ridiculous prices overseas.

The idea is to make a shop with prices ranging in the middle between the real prices in Japan and the ridiculous prices abroad.

And now comes the questions:

1. We originally wanted to make our own simple website (Maybe with wordpress? Any more ideas?) which has PayPal and CreditCard payment built into it. I have PayPal, so I assume it wouldn't be too hard to hard to somehow find a way to do that. The problem is Credit Card, as I do not know where to start and look for ways to do this...any suggestions?

2. We are also considering about Shopify and such places. To my knowledge these sites provides you with a store front and even take care of problem no.1 above? If yes, I was thinking maybe sites such as these would be a good place to start easy and fast. What do you think? And it would also be much appreciated if you guys can provide me with recommendations for these sites.

Another friend of mine suggested just using Pinterest. But I know nothing of it. What do you guys think?

My aim is to have a store front where people can see the goods, and it's details and click on the 'Add To Cart' button. And proceed to payment. But at the same time, I do not want to use Amazon and eBay. I want a costumizable interface.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
I thank you for reading. And bid you a good day/night ahead,

REAGEN

To accept and process credit cards on your website, you need to be compliant with the PCI-DSS. (Lots of work.)

    For WordPress, You can try WooCommerce + Stripe add-on + https://stripe.com/docs/checkout .

On a final note, I would suggest the Shopify route if you have sufficient funds to finance it monthly and don't have much experience in e-commerce.

Hey reagen you can try magento platform for creating your store front.Magento offers flexible, scalable eCommerce solutions
and supports different payment gateways. It is built on open source technology which enables you to
customize the look and feel, content and functionality of your store.

I would also recommend Magento for you. Lots of support and pluggins are available. You can set it up with PayPal easily so you can take card payments.

It provides a great store front.

Why do you not want to use Amazon / Ebay? They could provide you with extra sales.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations and comments.
I googled Magento, and correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like this thing called MagentoGo is a mix of Shopify and Magento? In terms of feature, of course....

In anyway, both got a free trial so I might try both.
If anybody have any other suggestions, I would gladly hear it, though.

As for why not eBay and Amazon. For some reason, eBay and Amazon is always giving me pain when I try to sell even 1 thing, let alone open a shop. Although I know buying from them is a snap, and I've did it a lot.
I've also read that they took a pretty big percentage out of every sales that you make, plus the monthly subscription fee. Is this true? I would love to hear what you veterans have to say about this.

If your friend has suggested Pinterest for getting shoppers then he has suggested absolutely right, once you have setup your shop and have some good number of images, i will suggest to join pinterest, and start pinning, join some group boards in your niche,
It is known that pinterest users have highest per person spending among all other social traffic...
So you don't wana miss potential buyers, plus like your niche is i think you will get some good attention there
