Credit card payment solution

Hi there,

I'm about to launch my new e-commerce site and I've been searching for a credit card payment solution with decent prices.

I wish I could use Stripe but I this is not an option because I'm not qualified.
(I live outside of the valid countries)

Currently I have an option to get paid via Paypal.
(I do know that Paypal also supports credit card processing but I would like to
use different company and not to put all eggs on PayPal)

I was wondering if you know some good company with decent prices that works with international customers?

I've checked 2checkout but they are way too expensive 5.5% + 45C.

Thanks

try using instamojo.com and gumroad.com for online products...if there is something you want to ship physically both the sites wont work...

What country are you based? That will help narrow down the processors you could use.

Dave Hermansen has been working with carts/payment processors/delivery for a long time Django, so what he says is worth checking out. I guess he means click on his sig.

I can suggest you might get somewhere if you check out Durango payment processing - in Canada, but deal internationally.

Paypal has the best in my opinion. Paypal payments pro. Fee is $9.99 a month but well worth it. Awesome API's and easy cart integration. They also provide a free swipe for your iphone or andriod. Have been using it for years. Also you can get their business debit card and withdrawal income that day at any atm.

Is it just me who finds 5.5% is a rip off?
I would like to have a service with no monthly/setup fees and with decent pricing.

I'm starting to realize that this is something out of reach for non US citizens.

I guess I need to compromised - right now I'm leading towards Paypal - haven't decided yet:

5.5%! Wow - yes, rip off! I pay 1.7% for Visa/M'card on a merchant account. I know merchant accts are cheaper, but 5.5 is extortionate!

Hi - same as I said to Django. Start off with what u can get (PP?) to get a track record then move to a merchant acct when they will have u.

But if u have a big product launch don't expect them to understand: a big influx of cash makes them think "money laundering/ rip off activity).

To get around that u need "rotating merchant accounts"! But that's only if u have a B-I-G launch.

What is needed to open such account?

Hi - a merchant acct is where you have an agreement with a bank to have u as a cc customer. Trouble is - u need a track record for them to consider u. Eg some providers want to see 6 months PP records with your application. It's a challenge getting a merchant acct but should b your medium term aim.

Also it is worth remembering that banks do NOT understand IM - AT ALL!

            "C-l-u-e-l-e-s-s" LOL

One size does not fit all. Some companies have better rates for customers with high dollar per swipe and some offer better deals for those companies who swipe small amounts often.

I would be happy to look over your current statement and provide you a different option.

I guarantee that I will save you money on your statement or will write you a $100 check.

PM me if you have interest.

          Hi all,
I'm so frustrated. The more I search for a reasonable merchant processor, the more confused and unsure I become.

I'm looking for an ecommerce merchant cc processor that is decently priced and will allow mostly drop-shipping of product. I sell Halloween costumes.

I have 100% perfect credit, totally US based, business bank acct, EIN, etc. and I was just rejected by a processor because of the "dropshipping" of the majority of the costumes. I do keep the most popular costumes here and ship those out myself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

          Thanks,
          Michele

            Michele,

I'm confident you could get approved for either of these:

PayPal Advanced - A PayPal solution that allows you to accept all major credit cards on your website for just $5/month + reasonable processing fees in the mid-2% range. The biggest advantage with PPA is the fact that you can see all credit card transactions and PayPal transactions in the same interface. The only real downside is that PP's customer service kind of sucks in my opinion & the phone reps rarely speak good enough English to get help when you need it. Apply at PayPal.com.

Durango - A traditional merchant account that also allows you to take the 4 major credit cards on your website. They charge a more typical monthly fee (like $30) and about the same processing fees, but their phone support is the best in the industry! Apply here.

If you have decent credit and aren't selling high risk products you should easily get approved for either of these merchant account options. BTW, don't go out of your way to make it known you are using dropshippers. Most all merchant accounts have terms that say you can't use dropshipping, but most of their clients do it. They know it's happening and intentionally pretend like they don't.

This is the type of stuff we help people with all day every day, so feel free to shoot me your follow up questions. I've been using dropshipping for high volume ecommerce stores for over a decade, so I know a bit about it.

Hey.. by far hands down use Paypal Website Payments Pro:

I do enough volume that my rate is 2.2% and in case your product is backordered etc etc.. you can refund your client and you retrieve the original 2.2% you charged the client.. and you have 60 days to do a refund.

It also gives your client the option to checkout with Paypal Express which is easier since they do not have to fill in all their information on your checkout page. Many people use this option on my store at the moment.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Credit Card processing is basically money transaction via electronic access directly linked to the customer's account. Both, the customer and the traders are crashing on credit card processing.

We can cut to the chase, everything is moving to a trust based environment. Thanks to the marketplaces there are a lot of non-genuine goods floating around - this causes chargebacks and fraud issues - dropshipping you have no quality control. Due to the economy it is now easier to take than to make - we sell a couple of WordPress plugins and had 4 orders for them a couple of days ago - we manually verify against their site and something didn't seem right - so rejected the orders and refunded - 95% sure they were fake orders via PayPal.

Then you have the banks being squeezed by increased capital requirements and reducing staff - meaning pressure on fraud prevention resource at a time when it is increasing. Then PayPal is not regulated and they have a build-up slow approach, go outside of their view of your revenue flow and you will find a blocked account - in some cases up to 6mths with no recourse. Net effect - SMEs get pushed out of the game.

What you are seeing is the increased difficulty to enter in the eCommerce market - the move to trust. We are working with some multi-national consultants (Magento platform) to mitigate the fraud problem with credit cards and also offset the need to have a merchant account along with minimising PayPal interference, but it also will lower sales as some people will be put off.

Keep pushing, the chances are you will find a merchant that will accept you, however that is just one piece of the puzzle. If your fraud preventation processes are not there and you are not prepared to walk away from sales then understand that for every fraud transaction you will need to make 5-10 further sales to break even from it. We did run eCommerce stores with merchant gateways in the past, but we are going to do it differently - we are risk adverse in todays environment.
