I am sure this has been asked a hundred times but I wanted to get an updated version of your thoughts. What is the best solution for my eCommerce site? I am talking about platforms.

I have been torn between Open Cart and Magento. I did however thought about using services like shopify but I think it's best that I run my very own eCommerce site. I have the web experience (13 plus years). Right now I am leaning more towards Magento.

Thanks

Dont compare Open Cart with Magento, Opencart is nothing in front of Gigantic Magento. The best thing about Mag is that it is way more scalable than any other platform. Tons and tons of Magento extensions are out there for smallest level of customization. I would highly recommend it. THere are many trusted developers out there like FMEExtensions, CreativeThemes, Lovemage. WOuld recommend FME due to my personal experience.

There are a ton of shopping cart applications to choose from, and a lot of the choices would have to do with what you're specifically looking for.

One relevant question involved multi-channel selling. Are you planning on keeping your inventory limited to just one webstore? Or is this something you might be wanting to sync up on multiple channels (ie, Amazon, eBay, other marketplaces and/or other webstores) in the future? If so, you're going to want to look into something that has integration with the tools that'll let you do this.

In terms of your own experience -- are you more of a developer or a designer?

As you probably know, the free version of Magento has no official support, but is open-sourced and has a very helpful and very talkative community of developers and enthusiasts that has sprung up around it.

If you're more design-oriented, or would rather not get too much into the nitty-gritty of putting your webstore together, Volusion might be a better fit.

    Hope this helps!

Magento belongs to eBay now. Is that right?
So, it is very easy to list your products to eBay and Amazon. Find the extension M2E Pro - it is free now (it was not at the beginning) and hope it will remain free. People love free stuff. You can manage your marketplace listing and order - just from single admin of your Magento - you don't need third party tool anymore - save your business cost and you can allocate for anything else which can drive you sales.

    Happy Selling
