Need advice on setting up a directory site

Hi warriors,

I plan to set up a directory of people with like-minded interests with the following features:

1. Every subscriber having a customisable personal page akin Facebook.

2. The site will be a paid site with the capability to update a directory listing (FB friend list) when someone signs up or does not renew their subscription.

3. A home (login) page with updates, news and offers.

I have heard of BuddyPress. Does it have the capability to handle the above with ease. I would prefer not to have to tinker with it every so often once it is up and running since I am not a programmer.

Is there a better solution? Been putting it off for a long time as I have a very small budget. So, if I can get away with a free option or one that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars, I would be grateful.

    I was in the same boat, so to speak, not too long ago and after spending days surfing online looking for help and answers I came across a site that is run by a member of this forum. (Actually, I think there's a whole gang of 'em!)

    Anyway, after looking through the site I sent a mail off with my queries and they replied within the hour.

    To be honest, the answers I received did open up for more questions but they replied lightning fast and I ended up with a solution that worked for me.

    They know a lot of stuff and can make things work and you'll be surprised at how cheap they are.

    I don't claim them to be a better solution than Buddy Press because I don't know that - but these guys often have great alternatives for a lot less money.
