Advice on buying websites

What is your goal? Are you just trying to make money online?

Lots of sellers on Flippa fake their revenue, be careful.

Well money is the primary issue but I have always had an interest. I was thinking of buying small like $500 to $1000 and using it to learn the ropes injuring evening after work. Then in time build it or buy more.

Make sure you do your due diligence before parting with any money. If you see a site you'd like to buy then check out the seller to make sure they have sold before and that their customers were satisfied with what they got.

Ask for evidence of earnings and other claims. If it's so good then why are they selling it? Make sure they're upfront about everything and aren't just trying to rip you off.

Yeah.....Flippa doesn't make sense to me at all. I have tried selling e-commerce websites with customers and sales, and I couldn't get buyers. Yet, websites that claim high traffic (but when I look at simple things like backlinks and alexa rank, they aren't even established) sell for thousands of dollars.

I have tried buying and selling websites, but in my opinion, there is not a good place for reputable website sales. If anyone has different info, I would love to hear as well.

I would say you are better asking around here on WF for anyone selling websites!

All about the sales pitch, the people who buy websites on Flippa have no idea what they're doing and just buy what looks nice.

Back in 2010-2011 I was "flipping" websites with no inventory or traffic, I was averaging $1500/week with just a few hours of work. Someone decided to spill the beans and only a few months in there was dozens of people copying my ideas and trying to do what I was doing, the value of the sites plummeted to about $90 which after fees was a waste of my time.

Instead of directly buying from any site, you can approach web development company and can get consulting for your requirement and then you can go ahead with your site.

If you are trying to buy an existing website with sales history that won't really happen with that budget. Anyone with decent traffic or sales volume is going to want more than that. Anyone saying they have decent traffic or sales accepting that much is a scammer.

Not trying to be mean as I know that is a significant amount of money - just not when it comes to buying a business.

If you are interested in starting one from scratch though then you have a great investment to get into the game with. If you want to send me a PM with the niche you are looking to join I'd be happy to give you some advice. I've built and ran multiple ecom stores of all different levels and in a lot of niches.

You have to really look around.

If the sum involved is over $500, I would insist on paying by Escrow unless you really trust the seller. There had been two occasions when I had been sold a site that does not even belong to the seller. Somehow the seller had permission from the owner to access the domain control panel. No amount of due diligence could have spotted that.

For that kind of money, buying on Flippa won't get you a site with much traffic or revenue. It'll be basically, a startup. Then you have to consider the products ... if it's ecommerce site, where are they getting the products. If dropshipping, are you able to sell the same products? You have to apply to dropshippers, so find out if you would be accepted.

Always do due diligence on Flippa before buying any site. Don't get scammed. I did a guest post on Flippa that covers the basics of due diligence.
