you have to make the digital product into physic product. ebay does not accept digital delivery (download, email attachment, etc)

You can still sell digital products on Ebay, but there are a few rules that you MUST obey, or your listings will be taken down and you could end up having your account banned.
You need to list your item only in the Everything Else > Information Products category using only the Classified Ad format.
You Can't sell it on an auction basis unless you turn it into a physical item and post it out to your customer.
Here's a link to Ebays policy on digital delivery - Digitally delivered goods policy

What I do to sell my software on eBay is create a CD, post auction/fixed price listing and specify in the description that the software will be shipped on a CD.

Once somebody makes a purchase, I send them email with the link to download the software and tell them that the CD is on the way. It costs some money because you actually have to ship the CD and takes some work to burn it, pack and ship it but it's a way around listing as Classified Ad that nobody will ever find.

I would suggest having different tiers for your products.
Maybe the light version and then Pro version at an increment in pricing.

In terms of selling digital product vs physical, has anyone tried to create their own physical materials? Might actually be interesting for some customers and products would seem much more legitimate.

It's pretty cheap to create your own stickers for the cds and inserts for the covers.

We used to sell our recordings both Tangible and Digitally delivered until they pulled the digitally delivered option some years ago. We were gutted at the time and it had a huge impact on our ebay business.

I still see sellers trying to manipulate the system and I am the first to report them if they are in my category.

  • It is correct, as mentioned earlier, that you can sell digital items - but only in the classified ads section.

However, and I speak hyperbolicly, no one has ever been to the eBay classified ads ever.

Here's why eBay doesn't allow the sale of digital (downloadable) goods.

eBay wants to increase (maintain) a reputation of being a safe place to buy. Many times downloadable software, or products, is seen as scammy, and at worst, malicious.

If eBayers have bad experiences buying because of this, they have less likelihood of coming back to buy. Especially if that experience is shared with their friends and family.

I'm not going to pretend that issues still exist and people have poor experiences, but that is why there is a feedback score - DSRs, fraud protection, and seller restrictions on buyers. (Like only buyers that have certain feedback can buy - or have no unpaid item disputes within a certain time frame.)

You can sell digital goods but you need to research what kind of digital goods you want to sell as not all of digital goods are acceptable on ebay.
