Opencart e-commerce

I think that just about any shopping cart can be worked well enough to get yourself some pretty good rankings in the search results. Granted, there are most likely some that have more ready-made SEO extension and plugins than others...but I think that with a strong strategy and good execution, you can infuse any online shopping cart with a successful SEO campaign.

SEO features are mostly included in all shopping carts, some go to deep leve and some not but overall i have worked in magento, presta and opencart. Found that i can set page wise, category wise meta settings. Bid difference is from the addons point of view.

I think if you're starting out, you'd be foolish to ignore a hosted solution like Shopify or BigCommerce. That said, I think OpenCart is probably the pick of the bunch in terms of free/open source.

It's weird because despite there been a wide variety of ecommerce software available in the open source/free space, there's very few proven solutions. Putting aside Magento - which is a good option for SME though less so for SMB's, I can think of one other decent solution. (Woo Commerce)

Yeah......and I guess I was being picky when I said the seo was not the best.......it just seems like I am working really hard to get results. Of coarse, I am not paying for them!

Good idea Feedia. Opencart is a very good suggestion and also big commerce this is simple quite very good and also active in search engines. Do you know little about the customized script for ecommerce solution sites in day today trends in industry. An survey says that many ecommerce experts are mostly prefer to use the customized scripts for their business sites. Also some open source cart are smart on handling the critical cases in sites.

Bigcommerce is a hosted cart solution so you have limited control over "making it your own" and adding features. It is also not free. I agree it is a good solution for anyone that has zero knowledge of even the basics of html or if you just want to test a store concept or do a temporary shop, but otherwise, I never recommend hosted solutions. You are at their mercy if they decide to increase rates or shut down (as magento's hosted version, Magento Go, recently did) that can leave you in a bind to get your store moved to something else and back up without losing revenue.

Opencart is free and opensource and you have complete control over features and design thru either plug ins or your own customization if you know a bit about html/php or hire someone that does. Plus even if in the future they stop developing it or producing updates, the code will continue to run on your own server for as long as you want it to - indefinitely or while you transition to something else if you choose to.

There are other cart scripts both free and paid that you can download and control as far as keeping it running on your server even if the cart development stops, though personally, I have found opencart the best choice for me and I played with just about every cart out there including Magento.

We've partnered with Bigcommerce, Shopify and 3dcart. All three present great ways to build and manage a store.

The big name would have to be Magento, what could be considered the "preferred platform" but that really depends on # of products and how efficient you are as a developer. The learning curve is higher but Magento also has a vast marketplace of extensions and add-ons.

Ease of use goes to 3dcart and Shopify. Support and function goes to Bigcommerce. Shopping carts are great but are no match for top eCommerce platforms.

Hi ! Most of my websites have run on opencart , and so far so good ! SEO wise, I don't think it'll have an impact, i'm using some basic SEO tools for opencart to handle it better, like the short url or suggesting keywords, and I got my website in the google top3 on a few keywords.

There is a reason Magento has a training program - you really need it to learn how to use it. It has a steep learning curve and you can expect to have to hire someone to customize it for you. Their addons tend to be expensive and not like to play nicely with each other. You should also plan on 3-6+ months development time to get it all set up and working properly. It also has specific hosting requirements so you need to look for a certified Magento host for it to work properly and even then, it's easy to break (as demonstrated by the crash being on Shark Tank caused the red dress boutique which runs on it - and why they mentioned in their pitch they planned to change software with the money from the sharks).

I worked with Magento for about 6 months in a test environment and never did get it to the point to launch it live. And I've been running ecommerce stores for over 10 years. If you are new to ecommerce, don't even try to do it yourself.

I went with Opencart instead as it was so much easier. I had my stores set up and running on it in hours rather than weeks.

I use opencart with a few seo options and it ranks well. If you are getting data from your supplier you need to change title and descriptions to be unique.
