Allowing Retailers To Order Product in Bulk With Magento?

Hey guys,

I am currently working on migrating a website to a brand new Magento Community install with Brightpearl integration.

We have a link on our old site that gives retailers the capability to fill out an excel spreadsheet with all the products they wish to order. The problem with this currently is if we don't have a product in stock they have no way of knowing.

Are there any known Magento add-ons or forms that would allow retailers to both submit an order request and see what inventory is available in Magento? Thoughts?

Forgive me if this is something obvious, I am still new to Magento.

A standard Magento shopping cart will indicate back order status.

For example: Say you have 50 units of Product A in stock. A customer adds 51 units of Product A to his cart. The shopping cart page will display a message that 50 units are available and 1 unit of Product A is back ordered. Then the customer can decide whether to adjust his purchase quantity.

Not sure if this meets your specific needs but it is built in to Magento. There may be other 3rd party extensions that deal with this differently.

1 extension (Embedded ERP) can display expected dates for back ordered items.

I knew about the back order status. Thanks for the input on that. We are specifically looking for something our retailers can use to order product.

It would most likely be separate from how a normal customer would purchase through the site.

Magento also supports Customer Groups. You could have a wholesale and retail group with different pricing for each. Wholesale customers could login to see their prices.

There are also extensions available that will show available inventory levels on the product page. Here is 1 example:
