Shipping internationally or just in USA for starter

OK. So I am very new to all this and am in process of building my site.
My supplier ships internationally. They are located in USA.

So just to test the whole drop shipping thing out, I would like to initially start with USA shipping only. Once I get a hang of how all this works, I can start with international orders. Does it sound like a good plan to restrict the shipping to USA only??

I first have to understand the ins and outs of how all this shipping will work, when I get my very first order.

I wouldnt limit yourself to just the USA market.

the best way to get experience is just jumping right in and going for it.
Plus most providers make it seamless for international order processing.

  • I have an 'international shipping rule' where I only ship to the country an item is located in.

That is because items are only purchased at a price the market decides they are worth.

If I ship to another country, then I am cutting into my profit margins, and losing money - because I am also needing to pay customs and duties fees.

Stick to the country the item is located in and you'll do fine.

      Hey,

Most companies are letting there customers know that they are responsible for all the duties and taxes that may apply during the shipping(customs, VAT etc.) Isn't this type of business model working ?

        That's a good question -

Now, if you're pushing the responsibility of this cost to your customers, then what happens is the total price of the item becomes HIGHER than what the market has chosen the 'worth' of the item to be.

So, if the item is being sold for an average price of, say, 100 dollars, and if I were an international person looking for this item and I saw that if I were to purchase it from someone who lived overseas - but they would need to charge me 130 to 'cover the expenses' then I, obviously, wouldn't buy it - because it would be over the price it would be worth. So - I'd be looking domestically to purchase it because it wouldn't be worth it to me.

The market dictates the worth of items only, not the seller.

Hello bro, I like to tell you that if you want to ship a large product like an electric bike or something like that. Sometime it will be costly more than the bike or that product. So, it is not so good for your customers. I think it is better to start with your local or country wide customers.

I think your plan is good. I would avoid all the customs and duties for now until you start building your business and hopefully becoming profitable.
