so i was reading the ebay seller forums and it seems there are alot of disgruntled sellers, some of them have been at it a very long time. I guess the issue of ebay leaving sellers out to dry in terms of returns is becoming a big issue more so then in the past. It makes me feel discouraged about using ebay... Amazon might be nice but ebay pays faster, so what to do.

    Darbok,

I have joined Ebay - as a seller - two months ago and I have to say that I was accepted relatively quickly. I got some product listing restrains but after I sold about 10 products, My listing restrains increased significantly.

It was kind of annoying the fact that at the beginning they where delaying on releasing my payments - but hey - I guess that safety and trust come first right?

I prefer Ebay over Amazon - because I find it's interface more user friendly to sell products than Amazon's

Ebay also owns PayPal which makes Life Easier for both - the seller(you) and the buyer.

The only problem is that competition is fierce on Ebay, But I guess it will become lesser and lesser fierce as you gain more experience with the platform.

I hope my answer helped in forming your decision !

    darbok,

The best way is trying both with small volume.
Results will give you enough info to make a decision.

By the way. Did you know you can buy products in eBay
and sell them in Amazon or vice versa?

are prices competitive if you buy from both and can you make any money?

most drop shippers suck and sell junk and bad service.

Ebay, Amazon and all of the others each have their good points and bad points. I have been selling on eBay for over 14 years now and love every minute of it. And been selling on Amazon guess 7 years. And again love it.

Selling on both platforms allows you to sell a whole range of products..... new, collectible and used.

Just stick with it, follow the rules, source products and list products on a regular basis and soon you will see traffic, buyers and sales happening.

I much prefer Amazon for a variety of reasons, but Ebay does have the advantage of automatic payments (though you can request "disbursement at any time with Amazon) and people are a bit kinder with feedback on Ebay... however, there are a LOT of problems that make Ebay inferior. I sell on both... if you're concerned with fees, try Amazon as an "individual seller." You can list as many items as you want and pay NO fees until they sell!

Before you categorize any company, make sure you are playing on a common ground... who are these disgruntled sellers, what are they selling, in what volume, full time, part time, are they playing games with the system, do they have a clue about business, etc.

I have many reasons for saying about eBay that I've never seen a company work so hard to destroy the community that built it. And most people who have been on eBay for a while agree.

That said, I joined eBay when it had just changed from Auction Web to eBay. My experience is there are some people who need to be flogged with a LART including eBay personal, buyers, and sellers.

Like selling anyplace, there are good and bad things about selling on eBay. Concentrate on the bad, and that pretty much describes what your experience will be. And the same goes for the good.

My experience has been almost 100% good.

One of the best ways to avoid having problems because of eBay's policies is to shore up your online selling with other channels.

Do you have your inventory on eBay? Rakuten? Half.com? There are other marketplaces in addition to eBay and Amazon, and utilizing these other points on the web can really be a great key when it comes to building up your online business.

Similarly, you can build out your own webstore to have exactly the functionality that you want.

Finding the right software to help you manage your inventory on multiple channels, though, is the real trick. (wink wink!)

I sell on both ebay and amazon. However, you should also have your own site.

    I opened one with Shopify.com .

I make sales on it I wouldn't make on ebay or amazon. I also pay for product ads, using one of its built in apps.

My advise is to get your own site as well.

I've been selling on eBay for 13 years. I do better on eBay than Amazon overall. I rarely get returns. I still, as of this writing, have 100% feedback rating on eBay, slightly less on Amazon. I think eBay has been giving the Sellers the squeeze in the past few years with policy and platform changes. It doesn't mean you can't be successful or profitable. It just means you need to be "aware" and adapt your business accordingly.

The key to success on eBay or Amazon is having a product that is not being sold by many sellers. The more sellers that are selling your products, the less chances of making sales and profits.

Everything begins with the products you are selling. It's really that basic.

Don't worry about what other eBay sellers are saying. You have to try it yourself. Start with small quantity. eBay allows you to list 50 items for free every month. Do that for two months. You may want to do a lot of testing to see if people are buying your products or not.
By testing I mean, changing titles, pictures, description, categories, etc
eBay changes policies a lot however this is what you get when you depend on other businesses to run your business. This is their business and they have the right to change the policies whenever they want. So that is why you have to adapt to their changes/policies or find somewhere else to sell your products. If you are serious then I would say start small with both eBay and Amazon, then use the money to build your website. You may have trouble bringing traffic to your website in the beginning but it will be better for you in the long run. I personally sell from eBay, Amazon, and my website. When someone buys from my eBay store I put a coupon in their package to be used in my website for their next purchase.
