Anybody knows if you need Sales Tax ID to import from Alibaba?

Hi All,

I live in MA and I am new to importing. I just wonder whether the suppliers on Alibaba need you to show you have a MA Tax ID to sell to you?

    Hi chilann,

    Suppliers overseas could not care less whether you have Tax ID or not. They don't even care if you are have a registered business, but they do care about the quantity you buy.

    This is why they mostly quote huge MOQs, but don't despair, it is possible to get them to agree to small orders if you know how to approach them.

    Before sourcing products on Alibaba, or any of the other popular sourcing sites, you should search their names at ripoffreport.com, where I am sure you will discover things that might make you think twice.

    Hi Chilann,

    Alibaba suppliers won't ask you to show your tax ID to them,but they might need it in terms of shipping because your custom requires that.

      Hi Chilann,

      This is incorrect. Your suppliers in China will not need your tax ID, but if tax is payable on arrival at Customs that is when you might need it.

      Depending on the value of your shipment, tax may not be charged anyways. The procedure also depends on your shipping method and whether you are using a freight forwarder and/or Customs Broker.

      If you can give more information I can give you a specific answer.

    Hi Chilann ,

    Alibaba do not request anithing to contact you with its advertisers , you will choose where to buy, if you buy from an advertizer that is whitin US , chances are that this supplier request you TAX ID
