Conversion Rate to low

Hi:
We have had this website since 2005. It has produced very well (obviously a bit more seasonal then not) and the business went through some changes which caused the whole business to go down. I have been working at improving it for a few years now but it seems like I still can not get the conversion rate better. I am friendly with one competitor and he said he uses the abandon cart second chance and it helps (but I am also not seeing a ton of abandon carts). This is obviously a very niche site and when people come to it, they are typically buyers. On the average.(and since the business problems we have kept track we are now earning about 1/5th of what we did..before the bad business partner)..we are getting about 42,000 visits per year, with a conversion of approximately, .003 so about 125 orders per year. While that sounds terrible our average basket is pretty respectable but...we need to get it up. In my pea brain I think, A. I have to convert a higher number of current visitors and B. I need to increase the visitors. If I only drive traffic I will need just over 300,000 of "my people", very niche to get there ..I think on who is already there I can only convert so many of them, maybe 10% more? Anyway, anyone who would take a look would be great if you have any ideas. pm me for the name, I don't want it public.

Figure out the intent of those 42k visitors for visiting your site and where you are failing to meet their expectations. Improve your offer to convert more of them into buyers. Sounds like you simply need to test offers more.

    Hi Bobbie,

I took a quick look at your site. I see many problems.

Here are some of the main ones...

    1) Your main page needs a headline and welcome/intro message that tells what the site is about.

    2) You need bigger pictures. Bigger pictures usually result in better conversions.

    3) You need better product descriptions. Right now, what you have is merely a spec sheet. That's boring.

    4) You need to make some offers. That is, have a sale, have specials, create bundles (buy x, get y for $XX off).

    5) Collect and display testimonials from satisfied customers. This will make other people feel safer and more confident about buying from you.

    6) When you use German terms, it would be a good idea to provide an English translation below it.

    7) Your site design could be improved. The sparse design cheapens the perceived value of the products.

If you do some (or all) of the things I listed above, your sales are bound to improve.

    Best,

    John

You could say that...the business partner and I did fine to start, end of first year in business 5 figure gross, end of 2,3,4 year 6 figure gross....year 2 we became engaged, year 3 it became evident he was also engaged to several other people (ok maybe not engaged but good enough) year 5 I slept and cried, year 6 I woke up, year 7,8,9 I have been trying again and now year 10. Problem was I put in over 50K into the business and he took out well over 50K. Ya, I don't have dinner with my mother without an operating agreement, baptism by fire. But that being said, the marketing has continued on for the past 3 years. The wholesale orders do come and I do market to them through calls, emails, social media. I do backlinks thorough blog posting and I have many backlinks on other webpages placed by other people, folks who would want my niche products. So, that type of work is going on....Does that make sense?
