Adult Novelty Traffic?

So every time I come on a forum and search "Adult Traffic" I get a ton of results but it's all people that are affiliates trying to get clicks, or people trying to get traffic to a porn site..

These don't help me because I have a completely different niche. I sell adult novelties.. If I put an ad on YouPorn, 99% of the people that are going to see it will be dudes, which lets face it, is not my main market..

I paid for some advertising through Plugrush today, and I tried with Trafficholder but their paypal system was down so I'll have to try tomorrow.. I have heard that SEO is almost pointless when it comes to this niche and it's all about "paying $1.00 to get a $1.50" with paid traffic…

Anyone know of any GOOD places to advertise for a novelty site?

Also, if I could get some constructive criticism on my site, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
-Jesse

In terms of your design -- I think your site could use a bit of a facelift.

It's not awful -- but it does look a little dated/unprofessional.

I'm no professional designer -- but just off the top of my head I can say that your top banner isn't doing you any favors in terms of design. The site looks a little busy and cluttered, and the product pictures don't look good against the grey backdrop of your site. Similarly, the placement and design of the pricing and buttons doesn't look very professional.

There are a ton of ways that you can improve your site -- and the good news is that these changes shouldn't be hard to make, or expensive at all! You can easily hop on a site like Freelancer.com, or oDesk or Elance, to find a freelancer. You might be able to find a developer in India who can turn out a new site for you in a relatively small timeframe, and without costing you a ton of money. You don't need to break the bank or get anything too crazy -- but I would definitely look for a design that is a bit more contemporary and professional looking. Also, there is a LOT of empty space on your site -- things aren't really spaced out so that they maximize the space that's available, which is another thing that might be costing you conversion.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reply with any further questions and I'll help you out as best I can.

Thanks for the criticism.. I agree that the pictures are an issue with the grey background, I was thinking about going with a white back drop, and have a small black stroke going around the photos or something like that. Still working out the kinks.. This is the first time I've built a website. Haha. I will probably change the color of the prices, but I'm not sure what you mean about the placement? Where else would I put them? LoL

I was surprised when you mentioned the banner.. I have had a ton of positive feedback on it.. It's different than all the other sites out there.. Every toy store page looks the same.. White, pink photos, pink lettering, etc etc. I wanted to try and stand out a little bit.. Maybe that doesn't work in this niche. Haha I don't know..

Like I said, I built the site, so I don't need to hire anyone, and I'll slowly start making some changes, but thanks again for your thoughts and I'll be taking them in to consideration when making my changes.

    Hi jesse,

Have you tried submitting your product datafeeds to shopping.com and the kind?

Hey, your site is looking AWESOME!

In terms of the banner, I think you're actually on to something. It doesn't look like every other adult novelty store out there, and that's awesome...but the design is a bit dated. The whole 3D thing and all the sparkles seems a little bit 90s to me.

I would also tweak the purple accent coloring that you're using. Particularly on the left side, where you're using it in the category menu. As the text background it's really jarring on a computer screen, and makes the text hard to see/read. That's a very, very easy change, though.

With the price -- move it up above the dotted line you've got, there. I would pick different fonts. Hit up Google Fonts to find some really cool and modern-looking sans-serif fonts.

Also, honestly? I'd start reading some books about webdesign, graphic design, font pairing, and stuff like this. If you're going to be doing this all on your own -- and you should! teaching yourself stuff like this has never been easier, and you're totally off to a good start -- you're going to want to really get in touch with some of those ideas. I recently did something like this myself -- spent a bit of cash on four or five graphic design books on Amazon so that I could get better at content creation and graphic design in my own work.

I would tweak the prices and "Add to Cart" button. Put them above those dotted lines and make them look a little sleeker. Use a more minimalistic, sans-serif font for the pricing, and make your "Add to Cart" button a little cooler. I would experiment with and A/B test some designs to see what converts the best.

    Assume nothing! Test everything.
