Why is my eCommercial site not converting well?

Greetings Warriors,

I have asked before some help here and received some good tips how to improve my site. The problem is I'm not getting enough traffic and traffic I'm getting(< 2000 visits per month) is not converting well. Under not converting well I mean people registered or sales.
We have been around since October last year. I'm doing directory submissions, rss submissions, youtube channel, articles, have 2 blogs(1 one site and wordpress one), all kind of social media and trying to share or post every day something. As I'm not good writer and English is not my first language, the texts or posts might not be the best and that might be the problem.
I don't know what to do next as we don't have much money to play with paid advertising.

Please give some feedback. Great tips how to get things moving and traffic flow going are greatly appreciated.

Digital Trade - One-stop consumer electronics online store!

Sincerly,
Kaur

If this were my site I would focus on improving conversions before worrying about more traffic. Once you have a good conversion rate you can get almost an infinite amount of paid traffic and it will be cost effective. In other words it will pay for itself and generate a profit.

Regarding conversions I see NUMEROUS problems.

    * What is the compelling reason that anyone wound shop at this store? There are MANY site that sell identical merchandise (amazon etc.) so why would anyone choose yours? I don't see anything to convince me that this site is a good place to shop.

    * I did not see any reviews or testimonials. Has anyone ever made a purchase on this site or would I be the 1st?

    * When I click on the banner that says "Why Choose Digital Trade...Read More About Us.." it takes me to an outside blog site. Really? That is not what I expected and is misleading.

    * Research consistently shoes that graphic sliders HURT conversions. Unless you have done A/B testing that shows a lift you should remove them.

    * Where are you located? Under contact us it's not clear what country you are located in. This seems sketchy.

Your site has potential but needs work to convert well.

I would consider cleaning up the design of your site in a pretty big way. You're actually off to a good start, in terms of the basic structure and setup of your webstore.

The big problem, I think, starts with the backgrounds. They're a bit busy, and I think it winds up making your site look a little dated.

I'd take a look at some of the best-performing sites in your niche, and consider taking some notes in regards to what they're doing that looks different from yours. There are a lot of ways that you could simplify your site, which might help with conversion in a big way.

I do see that your site is responsive -- this is a GREAT start, and shows that you know which direction things are headed. I'd still do a bit of work to clean up your site's overall design, however.

      You're almost there!!

        Appreciate feedback !

Could You be more specific ?

I have just remade whole header and product page to make it more attractive. Added new images, buttons, social media to header and better looking product page. I'm still trying to figure out the footer and some more design details.

I would like to bring in some sales and make site convert. Then I could invest a bit more into design work.

The site is looking quite nice -- good work! To focus on more conversion, I would recommend a couple of pretty easy things.

I'd work on your calls to action. You want to get people to register with your site, and really plug themselves in. Work on getting this to happen as soon as visitors arrive.

An offer would seriously help with this, if you can come up with a cool promo or discount or offer some type of premium/exclusive content.

I'd really work on those call to action, like I mentioned. The "Join Us" button at the bottom of that big banner is very, very weak. That little white button with blue text isn't going to demand that anyone register for your site anytime soon.

I would test out a few different iterations of that button. Color it differently, make it stand out a bit more so that it pops right off the page and just begs to be clicked upon.

I think you could also make more use of the blue menu bar that you've got up at the top of your site. There's a lot of really valuable real estate up there. You could do something like put featured content/categories up there. It's also a good place to highlight offers, news, and other things that your visitors are going to really care about.

          Good luck!

Do You mean something like shop credit to offer for becoming our customer? Or discount on some really cool product? Should of come on something like this myself.:p Still not sure about location this offer/promotion for visitors. Should it be somewhere on the middle or more near the header?
That would help me building customer list and maybe do some email marketing.

You're absolutely on the right track.

That red banner that you've got is an excellent piece of real estate.

What I'd do is look into a social login solution. Make it so that people can "join" your website via membership...but give them the option to do this through Google+ and Facebook. This makes it easy for visitors to basically pledge their loyalty to you with the click of a button.

Offering a discount or coupon is another great way to build customer loyalty and increase conversion.

              Best of luck!

      Thanks for input, appreciate!

Yes I would like to use paid advertise when its bringing in enough.

There's quite hard to find not identical items that does not sell on ebay/amazon. Theres most niches covered in hard way. We are offering latest smartphones, tablets, cameras but also accessories. Offering free express shipping worldwide on each product, manufacturer warranty. Discounts and special products.
I'm aware that there are many many other online stores that sell identical products. We are still looking for that new products that would be online on our store.

What do You suggest to use instead of slider? Just banner?

Theres under contacts our location but its in Estonian. Thank You for pointing out will change it.

No You would not be first one to buy. Theres been few sales. Will not get reviews without sells, that's why I need some advices how to make the site to convert and generate sales.

Thanks for input this is really important to me:rolleyes:

OK the banner that says " why use digital trade" click here to find more should instead of linking to your blog which talks about various products ( totally irrelevant) it should hyperlink to your a about page.

Here you list your mission statement how you keep things secure and how you are unique. Then below put maybe a call to ation.
And then below your CTA throw in all your testimonials.

Not meaning to be rude or nit picky but as a consumer I would not trust a website that couldn't put the time and effort in to ensure they're actually spelling basic words correctly. Within 20 seconds of loading your page I instantly lost all trust in your brand and left.

    Things like:

Genuine Products With Best Quality Competetive
Tangle Free Earphones With Bass Boos System

Contact us if You have any questions, conserns

These are all in the slider, the main attracting as soon as you hit the page. Can't say it's the entire reason behind lack of conversions but personally it would be enough to put me off

First, you are in one of the highest competitive markets - electronics. So you really need to stand out. Your site looks good (aside from the typo/grammatical errors already discussed), you have a large number of facebook followers (though I suspect you might have paid for followers since I see very little engagement.) and are on the other social networks, though are not using them for much more than product pushes.

Second, I'd rethink your blog article strategy and perspective. "Why Chinese products are on par with the world’s best" is a weak title and the entire article uses the tone of "chinese made products are as good as..." I'd have written the article more along the lines of We are the best because we are made in China and talk about the factory, the Chinese commitment to quality, that all the best electronics are made in China because of it, the top brands that have factories in China, etc. You don't want to put any negative ideas into the readers head and the tone of the article and heading definitely does this. Never apologize about your products - instead make them shine (I had a friend that used to sell at shows and would call some of her pieces "the cheap junk" because some of the market at the show could afford it. This immediately made the shopper think it was "junk" since she called it that herself and cast that idea on her entire inventory, even pieces that were high priced. It always surprised her that I sold more when I worked her table for her and she wasn't there - didn't surprise me at all).

Everyone has the same old articles about brands, reviews, etc. Instead, I would look for ways to help solve a customers problem. Look at x brand of tablet for example and give ideas for how someone could use it to solve a business or personal need. Does x smartphone have an awesome appointment calendar for example? Do an article on how a mother could use it to organize all her kid's activities. Does x tablet sync well to other devices? How could it be used to keep a project team on track? Giving useful information rather than just the facts or reviews of a product would help set you apart from others.

If you can, you might offer technical support too - even if someone didn't buy from you. I've helped customers locate a missing part or how to fix a broken item for example even if they never bought from me before (I just repaired a necklace for someone for example). Next time they are shopping for a similar product, they are likely to buy it from me since I helped solve their problem. Online chat is a great way to do this as you can limit yourself to a few hours a day. And of course have an FAQ section on your site giving the problem and the solution. You could also offer it on social media like facebook to boost your engagement.

For competitive markets, you really have to think outside the box. Make customers feel comfortable that you are the one to buy from, and engage your market.

Thank You! Feedback always helps to see points you usually don't. As I'm not really good at creative stuff specially writing articles and thinking headlines I have found proffessional writer. Need to ask for more engaging contet or find new one.
Technical support idea is what I have never though about. I will definetly try it out.
FAQ also has been on my mind and will put this on my to-do list right away.

I'm currently looking for new products that would get peoples attention.

Look at it from a customer's perspective.

Why would I buy electronics from a low budget site I've never heard of when I can probably get it from Amazon, a place I know and trust, faster and cheaper? Not to mention all the box stores like Best Buy I can go to in real life.

It's a bit harsh but I just want to point out that you haven't really positioned the material on the site as unique.

I would never personally take on a mainstream giant without a clear competitive advantage that I know resonated with my customers.

Can you niche your site down and sell stuff that is rare and not that easy to get elsewhere? Or can you make your pricing better than competing products because it's made in China? Do you have unique brands? Unique products? What separates you?

    Can you distinguish yourself?

Do you know what motivates your customers the most in your market? Say for example they wanted only best pricing, you would pre-emptively answer that with a best price guarantee and show pricing tables against other sites.

I have to agree with lack of unique content. I'm giving my best to find new suppliers and goods all the time. I'm giving out promotions and discounts. Branded goods do not have much profit anyway so can't really go any lower on prices. For small company its always hard to start competing with big companys such as amazon, ebay or some other huge electronics store.
We are offering free shipping worldwide for all our products via DHL not any airmail.
We are looking ways to engage our customers more and give them value. We have better prices than most EU smaller online store(not ebay.amazon). I just looks like we are not visible for customers or something scared them away.

Where is your add to cart button?
Smart TV Box Miracast, Android 4.2.2, 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, Bluetooth, Camera
If it is there it is hard to find.

This page did not render properly for me in Chrome, the H1 Tag goes off the screen to the right. Fix your divider.

Your website is mostly blue and white. That is cold and boring. try to liven it up a bit, and put nice big Add To Cart buttons on it, in Orange or Yellow.

Online retail is a tough gig, good luck to you.

Thanks for pointing out. It's there for some products such as tablets but not for some. I just noticed it myself and working to get it fixed really soon. Sorry for that.
New "add to cart" buttons looks pretty nice and gives some different colors to site.
Blue and white makes it look clean IMO and that's why I have choose those colors.

Hate to say it, but your niche might be your biggest problem. These items are a tough sell because they're high dollar and are literally available everywhere. That makes TRUST the most important factor when buying this stuff online. Most people won't take a chance on an unknown site to buy an iPad or a tablet when they can buy the same one on Amazon, eBay, and in local physical stores. There's no market differentiation or unique value proposition.

All of the big online electronics retailers are either established players from before the Internet or the early days of it, or they built a reputation through mass marketing. It's incredibly difficult to get any sales in this space if you have neither no matter how good your site looks.

The only small/independent guys winning in this space do so through the blogosphere. They become a voice of authority on the subject, doing reviews and comparisons, answering the questions people have about the products when they first come out, showing their faults, then offer links to sites like Amazon (with their affiliate ID embedded to earn a commission) to direct buyers to purchase. Once a reputation has been established, some can move on and launch their own stores, but that takes time and an audience.

Yes belive me or not I have been thinking about this since day one. We are trying to get away from high-prices electronics and replace it something more unique but less expensive. We mostly work for Estonian market and EU but can deliver worldwide. Current theres no stores in Estonia that sells some of the most popular Chinese branded tablets and phones, they are really good and cost 5 times less than any Ipad.
I'm currently out of ideas where to move on with this niche. Maybe I could just choose some micro-niche and add this to my store. We are not looking fast money, more building authority and trust on customers eyes. Ofcourse sales and money will help us improve everything much faster.

It is always good to know what your competition is offering your audience. If they are offering the same products at lower prices, then it is obvious that you will loose out on sales.

If you haven't got a lot of money, that rules out PPC and other paid acquisition channels. I'd suggest doubling down on blogging and email marketing - both are relatively effectively if done correctly and shouldn't cost you too much time/money.

      Thanks for your feedback.

For email marketing I would need somekind of list with possible buyers/retailers if we speak about wholesale also. I'm trying to get site to convert so I could build decent list with subscribers and csutomers.

  • There are hundreds of Chinese Sites selling Brand Name Products like yours that are scams so your issue with out building a trusted site that people would feel safe with your site comes across and feels like one of those sites.

It's a percentage game, the key as already mentioned is trust. Firstly you are trying to also sell webservices on the site alongside products, not smart, but that is a side issue. Read this thread, http://www.warriorforum.com/ecommerc...ml#post9369095 - basically OpenCart will fall in the WooCommerce band so you are going to have limit issues. So how do you fix this - either go very niche with one or multiple sites - or go big like enterprise (this is what we are doing). The problem with the latter is you need something better than is available via open source - you can read this for background Is Google really leaning more toward big sites with authority like Amazon, Walmart, which makes small medium e-commerce sites harder to compete in organic search? - Vanquish Consulting - they developed the overlay architecture to make Magento act like Hybris & ATG. It's not your fault, just the dynamics of commerce have completely shifted in the past year or so, the middle is progressively being squeezed out of the game to the fat tails (enterprise or very niche). Basically if you do it like everyone else, you have a 95-99% chance of failure - ie. not making any money when both time and cost are taken in to account.

The most important thing to get your site optimized is relevancy. You should be well aware of the fact that whom you are writing for or who is going to visit your site. It is quite important while you have an e-commerce site. You need to target the specific audience for this and should do the activities accordingly that you are doing at the moment.

One of the things that I would take care to focus on is strategy.

Instead of slapping a label on every product that says "Best Deal!" think about strategically presenting which products are the best deals. Focus them around whatever is happening in the world, at the moment. Seasonal trends, etc.

That's just one way to get visitors focused on your inventory in the right way (one that will improve conversions).

    Hey there...

There are few things that you can do:

    1. Instead of competing with Amazon/ eBay, list your products there. Use them for your advantage.
    2. Paid advertisement is an absolute must. Try Stumble Upon, it leads to large flow of traffic and that too at a low cost.
    3. Try mobile marketing and measure the results

Consider that this is the problem with most e-commerce sites owing to a massive competition.
    Cheers!

    Hey Guys,

I really appreciate all the feedback given.
I have been also worried about getting people trust the site. I have been trying to improve the website step by step to keep it look professional and store that people would trust. I wouldn't say it looks like cheap Chinese online store as they all look same. I would like to belive that digital trade looks a little bit more professional. There are things to improve ofcourse.
How would be best way to tell people that the site can be trusted? Would the feedback on the homepage help me ? Then people are able to see positive feedback from different sellers.

About that "Best Deal" sign. Yes I have to agree with You but currently the system only put the sign to special products that are discounted.

We are also trying to make the niche smaller and not gather all the consumer electronics as its really hard for small company deal with so many different things(so many products).

More good advices is much appreciated.

Thank You and all the Best!

It looks pretty good, and trying to not be too much of a downer, but still like an OpenCart or WooCommerce or BigCommerce style site. Customers, especially those that are paying, feel it instantly. On one hand you have very focused niche with detailed selective content and the other national or international corporates with high product counts, local currency checkout, local language. The closer you get to the middle between the two it becomes very marginal gains. So you need to think to yourself, why would they buy from you instead of xyz corporate where there are less chance of problems. If you are cheaper the first thing that should cross their minds is - is it fake - so it is a bit of a catch 22. You are not just competing against like size companies, you are competing against every size of business who sell the same products - it changes everything.

You are right that your ecommerce site is not doing well due to its less traffic and visitors in your ecommerce website, you must do the proper marketing and advertising of your website for the doing your website well. You apply some techniques like pay per click, radio advertising, multichannel selling, pay per click, use Facebook ads these strategies will help you grow the visitors and traffic to your website.

    Hey ,
Well follow below tricks and tactics to drive traffic:
Instagram is quickly becoming one of the most effective marketing channels for e-commerce merchants. So try to send free samples to instagram influencers,it's a great way to drive traffic!
Reach out to bloggers and press.
Get your friends and family to share.
Search Twitter for keywords related to your business and then look for chances to help people or add value in a way that lacks a sales pitch.
Let people discover themselves why your tweets are valuable.
My final suggested tactic for getting traffic goes back to reaching out and connecting to people with big audiences, and bloggers in particular.

    Hi
If you are looking for paid advertisement, go for Google adwords it gives the best results rather than any. But it is little bit costlier

Your site has two major flaws -

    1) Your design/presentation needs sorting out big time.

    2) So do your prices. - I googled 2 of your products and found them both $50 cheaper on Google.

That's my honest advice, take it how you will.

    Peace,

Do you have a marketing budget in place? Are you utilizing AdWords? Bing Ads? Paid advertising and product listings are generally how e-commerce platforms compete in the currently over-saturated market.

Facebook advertising is cost-efficient yet conversions are harder to track. AdWords and PPC can be difficult to manage especially with having to get geared for Google Shopping coming soon. This requires linking all Google Channels and understanding how to manage each product ad on a profit/margin basis.

If you have the budget for it, start out in Google AdWords. Otherwise, try Facebook, but no guarantees.

    Thank You for the feedback!

Well yes obviously we cannot offer the lowest price for each of those products as they are branded popular products. We are updating our product range as much as possible to offer more options for customer.

I would like to ask more about design flaws as this is something I have been worried for a quite a bit. Whats the most critical parts and needs to be fixed ASAP?

Looking forward to hear more helpful feedback.

    Kindest Regards,

You could probably benefit from working your email list a bit more. I don't see a large, obvious CTA on your homepage leading me to think this isn't part of your current strategy. I would think you'll likely go through some sort of 80/20 rule where most of your sales will come from 20% of your customers. So you'll be establishing a long term relationship with anyone on your list. Someone might only be buy on the 100th communication. The conversion happens, but much later.

As a previous commenter said, worry about conversions right now. Try to figure out how to maximize your lifetime value. No point in getting any traffic unless you have your goals clearly laid out for how the user will convert once in your system. Looking at your site, I think you could still need to work on that.

One other thing I'd personally like to test on your site is trying to "sell" more. Deal Of The Day, Clearance Sale, Hot New Products, Digital Trade Top 10 for August... trying to make some hype around products. Showcase the products in a positive light while reinforcing their value to the customer and get them to click through.

Right now your site is very one dimensional where I'll only click through if I'm specifically looking for that one product.

Good luck and please come back to us with any improvements you end up making.

    Hey warriors,

Thank You for positive and negative feedback it was much needed. Company is new and the budget is limited, thats how it is with new companies. We cannot afford expensive SEO specalist or designers.

Website content is updated daily, new products, offers, campaigns. We have worked on website design as well. It looks much better than it it, so I would appreciate few words and if we have moved forward or backward...

Looking forward to hear back from some warriors who have time to check it.

    Kind Regards,

Do you have your products drop shipped to your customers? Others seem to be more interested in how to create conversions but my question is how is your logistics set up?

If you can afford to stock these products, then surely you have some funds for SEO and marketing.

Let's dive deeper and look at your logistics and see what can be done to improve your end to end service.

Yes, most products are dropshipped as it would require huge budget to have everything available. Some products and models are available in stock as we are running different campaigns locally. We do offer free worldwide express services to anywhere on any orders. All products are carried to customer via DHL/TNT or Fedex and it wont take usually longer than 3-7 business days.

The prices are one thing that needs to be redone as they are made for Estonia. We can offer much much lower prices for different countries.
