Payment gateway for eCommerce Marketplace

Hi guys and gals,

I'm currently building a Marketplace somewhat like Amazon and eBay with various independent stores within my site. My site will be free to use and we will not be charging any fees or subscription.

I was wondering what would be the best payment gateway to use for this site so that buyers are able to make payments directly to the sellers without having to go through us?

I believe that it is possible to use Paypal for this, but are there any other alternatives out there?

What is the scope of the work required to implement Paypal as the payment gateway? (should we choose to use it)

    Each independent seller would need their own paypal account. You would just set it up that they could plug in their credentials or do what eBay does and have the checkout on the PayPal site. You would not use your own PayPal account for this. Your developer should be able to program that in for you easily enough.
