How can I start an online shoes store?

I would like to start an online shoes store and be a reseller of shoes (not sell my own brand). So I have an ecommerce site full of photos of shoes from different brands and when a customer purchases, I fulfill this order by sending it off somewhere, but where...?

I want to be able to dropship the product (i.e. not have any product come to my location).

How would I go about this, and where do I find credible dropshippers? Would I need a wholesaler? What's the difference between the two? I am fine with web hosting and all that technical stuff, just not the process after the customer buys.

Thanks for your help!

I have a product in mind that I would like to create a website for and sell via dropshipping as well. If you find out any information please let me know. As of right now, I am scouring these forums learning a lot of good information.

Dropshipper is simply a Certified Wholesaler who offers dropshipping. Not all wholesalers offer dropshipping.

It's actually quite difficult to find genuine certified Drop Shippers. Most of the results you'll find online are companies claiming to be dropshippers but they are not genuine Certifed Dropshippers. So be careful if you decide to search on your own. Always keep in mind that true Certified Dropshippers do not charge setup fees or monthly fees. So if you search on your own and find a company claiming to be a "dropshipper" or offer "dropshipping" and tell you you need to pay a setup fee, monthly fee or annual fee then they are NOT a real Drop Shipper.

        So be careful .

Call up the brands whose products you want to dropship, and see if they even allow dropshipping. Many won't. Other then that, the manufacturer many times will dropship for you or point you to a wholesaler or distributor that will ship on your behalf.

My only advice is be very careful with shoes. At least here in the US, Zappos has that locked up unless you are going to try and be the low cost provider. Also, you will get lots and lots of returns so find out if your distributor will take back returns or do you have to take them. And, if they do take them back, what are the rules and are there restocking fees?

Unless you are already a physical retailer of shoes, I would be careful of this niche. It is not an easy one to be in.

From what I have gathered, going direct to the manufacturer is the best route to take. I have looked at suppliers and distributors and they seem to have a little bit of a higher price than the manufacturers do.

My main thing is that I want to tackle my first niche and sell the product on eBay and/or Amazon. Once I can start getting a few sales, then I want to use that money to fund my own niche ecommerce website.
