Hello,
I'm new to this forum, but I know that here I can ask and probebly could get some good answers.
I have an ecommerce website that sells gifts, it's been up for more then a year but with no luck on selling to much.
I never did any off site seo or link building etc...
so basicly it's like a new site on the web.
my questions are :
what should I do for best results ?
could you recommend me on some good services that you know that worked best for your ecommerce website ?
any help would be appriciated.
Thank you
Eyal.

Are you thinking of utilizing PPC, or are you hoping to drive traffic to your site organically from Google?

This is no easy question to answer... There are literally entire courses and 300+ page books designed to answer this question. To put it VERY simply, if you want to rank well organically then you have to do 3 things:

    1. Build a sound website. This includes having unique content on all pages of your website. You will need to have good buying guides and help guides for your customer. You should have a good on site blog that you are posting to quite regularly with ties to several social profiles. You should have good H1 tags in place on all pages and good meta titles set up on all pages... And some more stuff as well

    2. Link building should be slowly and consistently happening. You should only be looking for links from authority domains within your niche. Getting a backlink from a completely unrelated website will do nothing for you and is a waste of time. Quality is far more important than quantity.

    3. Social marketing is also important. You should be updating your on-site blog and then shooting updates out to your followers. You should be finding new followers on the major social sites by posting good content and following others who also post good content. Over time the people who are following you will begin reposting your stuff and you will get natural traffic and natural backlinks to your site.

I realize that this sounds like a lot, but if you want to achieve good, long lasting rankings in Google then all of these things really should happen. It won't happen overnight but once you do achieve good rankings, you don't pay a penny for the sales you make and it ultimately means more profit stays in your pocket. We have a kick-butt tutorial on this simple approach if you care to read.

Why don't you try a paid service to get targeted traffic to your website?

Some good advice. I'd add to this (assuming you may well be already) go the hosted route to begin with. It's far easier as a merchant to focus on the mundane yet vital shipping, customer service activities than have to worry about the technology platform.

    Hi bkuana,

the biggest thing I found when starting my ecommerce site was finding out the main keywords which drove sales. Until you do this you wont know which keywords to focus your SEO on.

Start off with google adwords sending traffic direct to the pages with your best sellers. Find out what search terms are resulting in actual sales as opposed to general research. Once you know this you can narrow your SEO focus and also scale up your adwords budget to drive more traffic.

Try to concentrate your energy on one traffic source at a time and when you have nailed that move onto the next one.

If you have the money, a great place to start is hiring an adwords specialist to an analysis of your traffic and keywords.

    thanks,

    Garcy

Do you know any good adwords service? That is also one of my problems... I wasted a lot of time with bad outsource services that I decided to come here and ask for all the good providers to help me promote my site and finally make some sales... So please help me with a list of good providers.
      Thanx.. Eyal.
