Custom Clothing Product-How to Manufacturer and Dropship?

I have an idea for a particular garment (A hat of sorts that needs to be sewn from silk) and I would like to get A manufacturer to make it. What's the best way to go about manufacturing from say Asia or China or wherever and then get it drop-shipped? I have a website that has e-commerce capability already. I've been trying to research about doing both of these things together but I'm not sure exactly how to research for it and go about it. I seem to get fake sites. Or sites that dropship many items. I'm just looking to make this one item and then find someone that will dropship it for me. I'm not sure if I would get it made somewhere and have a bunch shipped to the drop shipper or to me then i ship it to the drop shipper or what?
I'm also wondering whether or not I should try and get A bunch made up and test it out first on the site and if it's a hit go ahead with the idea I had of manufacturing it and drop shipping together. I just don't want to have to scramble to get someone to dropship and have a time period of transition where it is not being sold.
Any guidance and help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

So I think there may be some confusion on dropshipping versus fulfillment. What you are looking to do is have a product manufactured and then have someone fulfill it for you. Finding a manufacturer is its own little world and I don't have textile experience so can't help here. You will need to find out the minimum order required to create your products. No manufacturer will do one off items except as a prototype (expect to pay 200-300 plus shipping for each prototype). After that, it is all about finding a fulfillment company to handle your orders. This could be Amazon FBA or someone local (my suggestions since you will need to handle pictures, packaging, etc) to you where you send orders daily and they fulfill. Either way expect to budget a couple thousand for the first round of creation. While a lot, your margins will be considerable.

OnlineStoreHelp has given you good advice, and his ideas about cost of initial prototypes are likely to be close to what you will have to pay.

There are thousands of garment manufacturers who can do what you want, but beware of the large number of traders falsely advertising as manufacturers on the popular sourcing sites.

I could direct you to safe sites, but you clearly have a lot to learn, not only about safely finding real manufacturers, but who to deal with them and how to arrange shipment etc.

You need to find someone to teach you these things. There are many people who advertise their ability to do this, including me, but you should check them out thoroughly (including checking me out) to be sure that they really know what they are talking about.

onlinestorehelp thank you for your advice that's what I am looking for is a fulfillment company. i know amazon is probably the best way but i am trying to have an item thats sold on the website that we have so as to generate traffic to it. plus its for my friends wife and we are doing her a favor.

importexport I'm trying to find the information out and I'm sort of the middleman a little bit. I am working with a friend of mine that I am helping. would you care to share some of the safe sites? And yes I have a lot to learn that's why I asked questions.

@superfly611, I don't publish those sites online because there is a lot more to safe sourcing than just knowing which sites to look at. You might like to have a look at my thread superfly611 where I do provide a lot of information that can help you avoid problems.

I won't throw newbies in the deep end until they learn to swim.

Don't discount having it done locally. The biggest advantage of Amazon is the cheap shipping though according to many I have talked to, their storage fees are quite high.
