Hey Everyone,

I am helping out a friend and trouble shooting his girlfriends website build with woo commerce and hosted at Hostgator. Have any of you had issues with 1. connecting with PayPal Pro and/or 2. IPN issues and hostgator blocking the IPN requests?

I use WooCommerce for one of my client's sites but I've never experienced either of those issues. If HostGator is blocking the IPN requests, I'd probably just call them up and see if they can get it taken care of. They're usually pretty good about things like that.

Thanks. Since I didn't have access to the hosting account I needed to guide the idiot "developer" that put it all together. At this point she was just so pissed off, I ended up moving everything to Shopify and had that up in 3 days.

As another aside, I am really liking some of the changes Shopify is making to their platform...

At least you found some sort of solution!

What changes to Shopify are you liking? I think WooCommerce is a good option for people who love WP, but I do want to use Shopify a bit more.

A couple things - I like how they are putting limits on storage versus products/SKU's. If done right you can really get a good amount of products if you keep your images at the right size

Mobile Responsive themes - No brainer

Category/sub-category Issues - At least on the theme I am using, you can create drop downs using tags since Shopify doesn't give you an easy way to create sub-categories.

Control or Meta-tags down to the page level. It used to be it was only site wide meta-tags and titles, now its down

Beefed up discounts functionality - I can now add free shipping coupons, $ off or percentage off

I still don't think they are at the functionality of BigCommerce but for a person like this that is on a budget and needs something fast, it worked perfectly and I think is exactly the client Shopify was originally designed for.

Well put! Thank you for taking the time to type that up and share. I see from your other thread that you're a big BigCommerce advocate. I'm trying out a demo site built on their platform right now actually.

Do you have an opinion on which cart would be better for a site that's specifically going to be dropshipping every single last product it sells? Not sure if you've ever ran a site like that.

P.S. - Sorry to get off topic! You can PM me directly if you would like.

As always... it depends. How many products, how many categories, sub-categories, options, warehouses, is shipping real time or just flat rate per order, overseas shipping or just Canada?

Around 300 products, around a dozen categories (probably less), not very many sub-cats, options for size and color.

What do you mean by warehouses?

Shipping it flat rate per order depending on how many products in the order.

        US shipping and international options.

Just about any platform will work just fine given your site structure. The only bad thing with BigCommerce is their pricing went up significantly.

When I talk about Warehouses, if you have multiple drop shippers, some sellers like to add in those different warehouses to reflect shipping and/or fulfillment.

I think BigCommerce has a lot out of the box compared to Shopify but I still think for all in one, Americommerce beats all of them. They just don't have access to as large a third party ecosystem. Feel free to PM...

Have you thought about using Magento. I've launched a lot of stores for many clients using it, and the features available (out of the box + addons) just blown other CMS away. I can't see any features that you need not available on Magento.
