Hello,

I recently acquired a domain name in the pharmacy industry. This domain was once a live website selling pharmacy products.

I'd like to build a site to the domain but I don't have much money. What do you guys recommend next on how to monetize and build a basic site to the domain? Are there any free options?

All the best guys!

If you are trying to build an ecommerce website, a few good options would be to install wordpress and use woocommerce or install magento which is another ecommerce platform.

If you just want to create a simple website with some basic content, I think installing wordpress would be a good option and looking for a responsive theme. There are many free themes out there.

I agree with PhantomX. Magento or Wordpress+Woocommerce will be your best bet.

Use wayback machine to see the previous layout and structure of the existing site and then decide how you want to 'revive' it using their previous structure.

I am not sure your main purpose of this domain, but are you trying to sell, or just to get it 'up' again for backlinks purposes?

There's nothing wrong with the self-hosted route but for newcomers or those not interested in dealing with technical issues, hosted i.e Shopify, BigCommerce is the way to go. Going hosted means you can worry less on technical issues and focus more on the mundane tasks required to run an online store i.e shipping, customer service etc.

As discussed above, the real question is how do you plan on monetizing the domain? Do you want to do an Adsense site, affiliate marketing, Amazon, or a retail site.

I can tell you that pharmacy type domains in the U.S. and I know other countries can be tricky depending if you are trying to sell medications, supplements, etc.

Sometimes this niche works well with the strategy of creating passive income by launching an information site and using AdSense on the site or affiliate marketing of acceptable products or information guides or services.

Let us know how you think you want to use the domain and what it is, then we can give you more specific advice.

I think I'd like a simple information site building... nothing fancy. So long as I can generate some kind of revenue from it in an ethical way, that is fine. I am familiar with AdSense and Clickbank so perhaps these might be an option, but I am not sure how to install this on a WordPress site does Woocommerce do this kind of thing?

      Regards

These guy's are telling you to use wordpress which is great but if you don't know how to use it it does not help him. First I am guessing you bought a Domain Name, so now you need web hosting. If you choose Hostgater you can quick install wordpress from your C-Panel. There is no place you will get free hosting but 1dollar-webhosting is the cheapest way and is just a dollar a month. You will have to edit your site for what you want it to be, either selling products or services. If you need any help with anything just ask, I am more than willing to help you and I don't charge anything. I also have a lot of free resources on my website. Let me know.

Kind of a loaded question there.
Magento is a beast and no way it is recommended for a site unless you have an inventory and have a need for the full backend.

Joomla alongside virtuemart is an option but will require some coding.

Wordpress and woocommerce is the simplest with great SEO benefit. If the site gains traction the migration is easier from wordpress.

Since you in this section the assumption is your going to sell physical products?

      Thanks AzzamS!

I am not intending so sell physical products myself, but perhaps I could use Amazon affiliate products? What are your thoughts?

      Many thanks!

Well, to monetize a pharmacy site, you can place ad banners, which work well, and also promote pharmacy products (affiliates or your own, if you have one), sell eBooks on what kinds of products to use during what conditions and so on....

Thanks AuthorityBuilder. So where do you personally recommend I find banners to monetize the site. Would I make my own banners or are there some affiliate schemes with banners already in place that you could recommend to me?

      Thanks!

You can Build website via Wordpress CMS. And there's lots of free theme. For Ecommerce/online shopping you can use WP-ecommerce plugin free.

I recommend Woocommerce. The Woocommerce plugin is free. They also have some free Woocommerce themes. The extensions (plugins) aren't free, but they are purchase one time instead of paying the monthly fees that a lot of ecommerce sites have. You also don't need to be a programmer to use Woocommerce. It's fairly simple, especially if you're already able to use Wordpress. There are a lot of Wordpress tutorials on the Net, also free and plenty of documentation with Woocommerce and the extensions.
