Some noobie questions on drop shipping

So ive been reading a lot about ecommerce and Drop Shipping, and decided id go for it.
i have a lot of spare time, and i have some money to invest in it.

Now im thinking the best way to really get into it is to take a course,
im not usually the one to fall for these "get rich fast" infomorcial thingies, but this seems a lot more different.

im debating between Antons DropShip Lifestyle, to Andrews Ecommerce Fuel witch both seem like really excellent choices, now Antons one costs 250$ with the WSO and Andrews one costs 600$.

what would you suggest if money was not the issue, whats the difference between them and what do you think is better for a beginner?

how long does it take to actually see the results? (i assume im gonna have to work my ass off before i get a sale, but how long on average will it take to start seeing results if i give a few hours every day?)

By the way i dont live in the USA i live in the Middle East but i am a US Citizen, so what do i need to do in that case?

and last question, when i get really into it, what should i expect to see in a few months?

Thanks a lot, i hope you can help me

I was exactly in your position a few months ago
A lot of spare time, so I decided to start that drop-shipping business

But I went for Chinese drop-shippers rather than US. So I cannot really answer your question.

    Good luck!

It depends on your budget. When you first get started you'll need to invest either time or money (or both). The more you invest, the faster your results will be.

You'll also need an action plan for your launch. You can make sales pretty quickly after launching your site - anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

@Devilite, If you have some money to invest, why choose the extremely low margin dropshipping business model when you can make huge margins importing small quantities direct from manufacturers overseas?

$1500 is a lot more than quite a few people have had when they got started in direct importing and many of them have done very well. They place small orders and import them. They sell all or most and put the money back into more orders.

They rinse and repeat, all the time building up bigger business.

The margin is the extra you add to your buying price so that you make a profit. The margin on dropshipping is considered high if it is 30%. Most dropship resellers will tell you, as many have on this forum, that they make a lot less.

When I ran my importing business I never bothered with a product unless I could have a margin of 250%. In other words, to arrive at my selling price I took my total landed cost and multiplied it by 250%. This gives a gross profit of 60% before selling costs. Landed cost is the price you pay the overseas manufacturer, + freight + duty + tax.

You must know what your selling costs are before you decide to put a product up for sale. If you are selling on Amazon or eBay your selling costs will include Amazon or eBay fees, freight cost to send the items to your customers, and PayPal fees. All these costs can eat into your profit margin

Let me explain about your question ".....what you mean by importing small quantities direct from the manufacture"

Most people wrongly believe that to buy direct from manufacturers in China and other countries overseas you have to buy big quantities. That is because they see suppliers on B2B sourcing sites quote big Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ).

If you know how to do it, you can usually get genuine manufacturers to supply small orders and you still only pay the factory price. You don't have to buy those big MOQs. You don't buy from wholesalers on those B2B sites because they also buy from the manufacturers and then add their profit margin before selling to you. It is also a fact that wholesalers are much less likely to agree to less than the big MOQ they have quoted.

Importing those small quantities that you have bought overseas can be done very easily. Depending on what freight method is used, most of my book readers never have to bother with learning the rules and regulations and they don't deal with Customs themselves.

Usually the shipment is delivered to their door. They can then check them and package them ready to send out to they buyers they get.

Don't rush in and think you can sell something at a profit just because you see it for sale on eBay etc. There is a lot of homework you must do first so that you can be very confident that you can sell the product and that you know how much you really can sell it for. There are experts who can help you with that.

I can help you with the overseas sourcing and the importing. If you want post any questions on that subject I will do my best to help/

Being so new to online marketing you will have a lot to learn. I think it might be premature for you to buy my book that teaches how to safely source products and how to import them the easy way.

Instead I suggest you have a look at what some experts on marketing can tell you. Auctiondebteliminator gives a lot of valuable information that you could find very helpful and he has a free offer in his signature at the bottom of his posts. To save you the trouble here is his link out of his signature: FREE eBay eBook!

He explains the basic things you need to know about choosing a product or products to sell. If you don't do the kind of preparation he teaches you could finish up losing money on every sale.

Once you have got to the point of knowing which products to sell I will be happy to help with sourcing them.

When it comes to drop-shipping, I think this thread is hugely helpful:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/building...ites-here.html

There is a metric ton of information in it, and it's actually been pretty consistently active since sometime in the tail end of 2012.

    Hope this helps!
