If I run out of family and friends, how can I get legit reviews for my Amazon listings right off the bat?

I am seeing less than 1/2% of buyers leaving feedback, and 0% for brand new products.

What are some ways to get Amazon reviews, where do I find these reviewers?

Any help or knowledge from you Amazon experts is greatly appreciated!

I'm not saying it is a perfect solution, but you could find generic low priced items such as CDs or DVDs and sale a large number of them. Then you should send follow ups requesting feedback. Ultimately, you need to sale a lot of items.

Amazon's selling structure was literally built for the consumer and not the seller. You can try sending thank you emails with a link to give feedback or something along those lines.

  • In general, Amazon sellers receive feedback on about 5-10% of their orders...so not very much. Like Anthony said, Amazon was not designed for a lot of (or really any) personal communication between buyer and seller. It's impersonal structure makes it hard for the buyer to remember to leave feedback...or even feel obligated to do so.

I work for a multichannel inventory management tool, and we recommend to our clients to edit their packing slip details. Include some sort of customer service line, something like - "Thank you for your business! We strive to provide products and services of exceptional quality. If you feel that any part of your experience is not worthy of five stars, please contact us immediately so that we may resolve the issue for you." Something like that communicates to the buyer that you are a professional and courteous seller, and are dedicated to earning their satisfaction. It's also a subtle nudge towards leaving feedback.

Email marketing is another, albeit controversial option. You'll hear both ends of the spectrum, with some sellers very wary of "poking the sleeping bear" and soliciting negative responses, and others who really stand by it. We've had a customer increase his seller rating from 96-100%, and he attributes this to our email marketing tool...which is a compliment we happily accept. However, not everyone is comfortable trying it out. Definitely start with editing the packing slip details. See what works, adjust, and then consider if email marketing feels comfortable for your business.

Good luck to you! Hope you get some lovely reviews.

I've seen this question come up quite a few times, in different forums.

The post above mine is totally dead-on, in terms of a snapshot of how easy it is to organically get reviews on Amazon.

Believe it or not, the most common response I've seen is, "You offer a good product, really fair prices, and ship everything on time, always. That's about all there is you can do." As mentioned, things like email for following up can be frowned upon.

    Hope this helps!!

Just depends on what you are offering. For instance, if you are selling Kindle ebooks then you would simply offer the ebook free for a limited time at the start. Then post about the free Kindle ebook on various forums that allow you to mention your freebie. There are even forums devoted to writers where they encourage you to link to your free ebook downloads. During the free period, you should get many downloads and reviews. To encourage reviews, you will want to ask people on forums to download and review the Kindle ebook and offer a helpful critique. This might increase the number of reviews you are receiving. As for a physical product, you would have to just ask your customers as many don't even know there's an option to leave a review or can't be bothered trying to remember. If possible include this information in a follow up email that you send to your customer, if allowed.
