Just tried to move my ecommerce store to another platform

Found out it was pretty much a waste of time and money..

Story:

I was dissatisfied with my current ecommerce platform and I couldn't help but wonder if I might make more on a different platform.

Turns out that after dropping $2000 on a move and discovering the support was pretty much just as bad at the new cart, I turned the DNS back to the old cart.

Worse than losing the money to find this out, was all the time I put into it. I had to fight with their support to get what I needed. In the end, BIG waste of time.

If you have a platform already, consider that it might not be worth moving unless you absolutely have too.

You can ask me questions about this, but I won't name the companies involved - even though I would like too...

It's about business process automation, sounds like you were using SaaS providers like Shopify, Volusion, all that does is replace like for like plus the learning curve of the new dynamics and flaws - so at best ~100% efficiancy gains. The next move is Magento which takes it slightly higher in automation, but you are lucky to get 200% - if you really know what you are doing and add enterprise grade tools around it you can get toward the 500% level. It's only when you get to Hybris and ATG you starting hitting the 800%+ efficiency gains.

We use Magento but with layers built by SAP consultants, so get 950% efficiency gains - the same as the corporates. That's the problem with the SaaS and small business platforms, people think they get 100s percent gain when they are lucky to get 10s percent. That will be where it all fell apart!

yes, that sounds reasonable. the part that really bothered me though was the support. just as bad as my current provider. uncaring and unhelpful.

When you talk about efficiency gains are you referring to the speed of the platform? Or are you referring to conversions? Thanks for your reply.

The amount of resource you need to run a business at a given level - or another way to look at it is the number of products and orders you can process given the current resource. Corporates can process 7-10x more orders and products per employee than a small business due to their business process automation.

What sort of feedbacks or reviews did you came across before finalizing the 2nd platform?
